San Francisco visitor suggestions
I tend to get a fair number of requests from people asking for my insights on things to see and do while in SF, so I've finally put a little bit of time into compiling an initial list. I will most likely grow this in time and add more specific lists, but for now, this is a solid start. So if anyone is interested (particularly if you are planning to be an SF tourist anytime soon), here's my list:

That may show up on a future list ... especially since about the only time I get to go bar hopping is when one of you guys is nice enough to come to town and call me out to play!

Good list and a lot of solid suggestions. This will help as we are thinking of taking a two-week trip exploring California this summer. If it happens maybe you can meet up with us at a local brewery. I enjoy putting faces to names.
Alcatraz is one of the top on my list!

You may want to tip at San Fran restaurants. Things could get ugly if you dont.BearCat wrote:Good list and a lot of solid suggestions. Absolutely ... drop me an email if/when you make it down here. I'd love to meet up.BearCat wrote:Good list and a lot of solid suggestions. But yeah, seriously, either I need to pick up the check or you need to tip, because I don't want to be burned at the stake as part of a "no tip" scandal.

Fair enough! Things are still in the air as we are debating California, the Vegas thing, Boston, etc. We'll let you know.Bay Area Cat wrote:Absolutely ... drop me an email if/when you make it down here. It is a bit of a drive, but the Muir Woods is awesome. A walk/hike along a redwood grove is great. I would skip it only if your trip included going on to either Sequoia, Yosemite, or Redwoods NP.

Yeah, I agree. Excellent point. Muir Woods is definitely worth the time. At some point I will probably do a "best outdoor spots" and "best for kids" posts ... Muir Woods probably makes both of those lists for the Bay Area.SaxCat wrote:It is a bit of a drive, but the Muir Woods is awesome. A walk/hike along a redwood grove is great. The Anchor Steam tour is awesome -- I've done it about 10 times, and it never gets old. They also pour enough beer to get you very tipsy ... all for free. Just be sure to book it early, as it's really hard to get in last minute. And let me know if you decide to book it, as I may ask you to add one for me as well. I work a short walk from there.BigBruceBaker wrote:Thanks again for these BAC.

Seriously though that could be a good marketing hook. "An San Fran..."

Okay, this might lead to a research project. Isn't how I wrote it correct? Don't we use a/an based on the phonetics of the subsequent word/letter? So in that case, I'm essentially saying "An ess eff?"

I would say "a SF resident" rather than "an SF resident" but I could be wrong.Bay Area Cat wrote:Okay, this might lead to a research project. Isn't how I wrote it correct? Don't we use a/an based on the phonetics of the subsequent word/letter? So in that case, I'm essentially saying "An ess eff?"
I always thought that it was "an" if the following word starts with a vowel, and "a" if the following word starts with a consonant.

Hmm...I guess you're right. When I saw the "SF" I was just automatically saying San Fran in my mind. Oops.allcat wrote:I would say a San Fran but I would say an SFbobcat99 wrote:I would say "a SF resident" rather than "an SF resident" but I could be wrong.Bay Area Cat wrote:Okay, this might lead to a research project.
