Chinese Immersion schools

My wife really wants our kids to get into one of these schools here in SF (which may be a long shot, as the public schools are on a lottery system).

Are there any programs like this in any MT schools, for Chinese or any other languages? I'm just curious how widespread this sort of thing has become.

And BAC wonders why its been a tough sell convincing his wife to eventually move to MT.

That said BAC, no I have never heard of anything like this and would have to agree with the gist above that I would bet it won't be found here for quite some time.

The Montana digital academy offers Chinese to all publicly enrolled middle and high school students in Montana. Some high schools also offer it directly, but I'm not sure there is a full immersion school in the state. There are a few private preschools and Montessori type schools that offer something similar I believe. At least there were at one point as I dated a girl in college who had a daughter attending a French and Spanish immersion preschool.

Thanks -- that's very helpful. It's good to know that if we were to ever move back, there would at least be some language programs available. Always being the guy in the room that only speaks one language (and can't seem to pick up other languages at all because of that, making me a crappy international businessperson/traveler), I'm very self-conscious about this stuff and agree with my wife that it would definitely be nice for our kids to grow up speaking multiple languages.

These schools are very popular in Utah. Also the school district where I teach in Idaho is going to implement Chinese immersion next year. We are a hour south of west Yellowstone so 2.5-3 hours to Bozeman.

We never really thought that accent was widespread while we were there....but we had a voicemail on our Vonage phone yesterday, it was a wrong number from a school in Fargo. After we listened to the message we both shook our heads and said "wow, that was a STRONG accent!!" I'm not sure if we just happened to get a strong one, or if we'd become immune. But they do exist!

BTW, I've gotten to wear I have to listen a minute to figure out if it's an Aussie or American/Canadian accent.
