Basketball practice starts Saturday: Women's update, anyone?

Mens and Womens basketball practice starts this Saturday October 15th, (I don't think either program is planing a "Midnight Maddness" thing late Friday night / early Saturday morning) We have been talking a little about the mens team but does anyone have any insight into the women's team.

I thought they changed the rules so that teams could start at 7pm or something, instead of having to wait until midnight... Maybe that isn't going into effect until next year.

One of the late recruits, Lacie Titmus from Orem, Utah, dropped out. So they've just got 4 players to replace the 4 that graduated. Jenny Heringer from Billings, Shannon Bosley from Livingston, Nubia Garcia from Utah, and Anne Phippard from Washington.

The team will be inexperienced with no senior class, a first in MSU women's bb history. Height will be upgraded with 2 new 6-2s and 5-10 and 5-11 guards.

There was a call out for walk-ons, and most interestingly a call for men 6-4 and under to try out for a scout team. I don't know if MSU has ever done that before but I remember reading about Pat Summitt doing that at Tennessee.

The team's been out running and working out, should be in shape for the season. I think there is reason for optimism with the new staff, but perhaps not a great season with the inexperience of everyone. But I think they'll know what they are doing on the court and will perform up to their best ability.

If I remember correctly, the Bobcat women dropped 3 or 4 heartbreakers, one at home against Weber and that one in Missoula. They were 9-18 last year, but easily could have been about 13-14 and maybe 7-7 in conference. These girls can finish at .500 or better. We have some good players like Goodman and Morton and maybe more solid coaching. ISU and WSU lost key players, so MSU could really climb up the ladder in the BSC. I think that the women's team will surprise a lot of people this winter.
