What Happened to These Players

Post by gtapp » Sun Oct 09, 2005 8:41 pm

Has Eddie Smith played at all in the last two years? How bad did he hurt his hamstring?

Has Chris Davis Played? He was supposed to be one of our better cover guys?

Saucedo was supposed to be a real "stud". His playing time seems to be going down.

Are the yound WR's getting any playing time (Rundle, Lulay, Brown)? If not, will they be ready to play next year?

Is Matakis coming back next year or is his career done?

How are the freshmen looking? I know at least two (Gazzerro & Taito) are on special teams.

I thought I remember that Matakis retired.

Eddie Smith still hasn't played yet. Very frustrating. He impressed me in fall ball when he played, but we need him on the field. We've invested quite a bit of time and money into this kid, it would be nice to get some kind of return on the investment (not blaming Eddie, mind you). Maybe this team just needs a new physical therapist...

Chris Davis, same story. Still hasn't played, but impressed me when I saw him. Every week it sounds like he may play, but still hasn't to date. It would be nice to have either Chris or Eddie available just to add depth to our secondary.

Don't know about Saucedo. Can't say I have been too impressed with anyone on our defensive front so far, although you aren't going to win too many battles 3 against 5.

The young wideouts haven't played much at all, and I am very disappointed with this. These kids are going to be our starters next year after we lose a bunch of seniors, we need to get them some game experience. It isn't like these kids are chopped liver either - in fact, Rundle and little Lulay impressed me more than anyone else in spring ball. It is hard to justify taking out the guys we have playing receiver because they are so good, but I would like to see us get these guys in on a series here and there. I think they would do quite well.

Matakis is coming back, but not this year. He tore his ACL and was making good progress with his rehab (too fast in my professional opinion, though), and reinjured it this fall. I believe he had to have another surgery on it. He is an animal though, and he will give us a good boost on the line next year. Celtic, the guy you are thinking of is Ryan Cogley.

Don't know much about our freshmen. Gazzero and Taito are the only two playing this year. I have heard that the coaches are impressed with Jeff Hansen (CMR O-lineman), and he is on redshirt alert at left guard (I think that is the position?). I would be interested to hear what others have heard about our freshmen.

Watch out for Schreibeis at TE next year. He will be a real threat for us at that position. He will be all BSC if not All-America by the time he graduates. I think Groves will win the RB job next year over Taito, but it will be a fun race.

Wouldn't it be sweet to see a Lulay to Lulay connection this year. Against PSU would really be great, with the whole town of Aumsville in attendence.
