Re: Class AA Football outlook 2011
Watched CMR scrimmage last night. The had 1 sr, 3 jr, and 1 soph starting on the oline. They looked pretty darn good. Scored on every drive with relative ease. Line is strong and quick and several are pretty fast. No overly huge linemen, 230, 220, 200, 200, 210 a cross the front but very athletic. Huge TE with great hands and speed. Probably the only D1 player in the Sr class. 3 deep at running back and running 3 deep at quarterback. Receivers had a good scrimmage but are probably the weak link on a strong group.
Defense is pretty decent but I don't think it is as strong as the offense. Secondary has a lot of experience and a couple of really good players. Linebackers are deep but no real superstars in the bunch. Seniors will be pushed by Jrs an Sophs for playing time by year end. DE has some strength and speed but not huge size but that is how Jack likes to play it. DL is a big question mark. One return starter is pretty good but they lost the other to a knee injury and really don't have a lot size. They will rely on speed and strength there more than size.
Kicking game is going to be a worry. Lost both kickers from last year and replacements are lacking legs and experience.
CMR will score points and if there defense can be slightly above average they will be in the top half of the AA. I think they are probably in the 3-6 rank right now. After getting a few varsity games under their belt I expect them to really be competitive.

Re: Class AA Football outlook 2011
Attended the red/black on Saturday. Bozeman definitely has some very good talent; quite a few sophomores pushing for, and surpassing upper classmen in some cases, playing time. I still hold to my previous statement that I think it's going to take a few games for them to get their feet under them at the varsity level. Whether those will be wins or losses I can't say.

Re: Class AA Football outlook 2011
Just found out CMR lost a RB/LB to a knee injury. Back up at both positions but would probably have worked his way into some good playing time. Would have been a special teams starter.
Anyone know anything about Butte High Fottball this year?

CMR wins 37-14 over Butte.
CMR had 16 penalties adn gave up two big plays on special teams that lead to the two Butte Touchdowns. CMR was down 14-3 with about 7 minutes left in the first half and then put it all together. Defense played better than I thought. Offense is young and will be real good once they get some game experience and start to gel.

Re: Class AA Football outlook 2011
I see Glacier is fourth in one coach's poll and sixth in the other. Anyone know which it is?
All the games appear to have been fairly one-sided last night. The only halfway close game was Glacier's win over Skyview, 21-10. The rest were by 18 or more. Capital, West, CMR, Helena, and Senior all won.

MSU - 16 team National Champions (most recent 2024); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

Senior (1-0) vs Helena Capital (1-0)
Skyview (0-1) vs BUtte (0-1)
West (1-0) vs Helena (1-0) in Helena
Bozeman (0-1) vs GFH (0-1)
CMR ( 1-0) vs Glacier (1-0)
MSLA Big Sky(0-1) vs Flathead (0-1)
Thats what i can find.
It looks like all 1-0 teams play each other and all 0-1 teams play each other. I would say the West Helena game is the game of the week.

Re: Class AA Football outlook 2011
I got to listen to the 1st half of Bozeman vs Missoula Sentinel last night. Offensively the Hawks consistently got good yardage on plays but penalties killed a lot of drives. Defensively, the Hawks played some great defense with a lot of tackles for loss. But, they allowed a 97yard td run and a 71 yd td pass play that were the difference makers.
I still hold to this team having some very good potential. As the season continues, I believe they will adjust to the varsity play and look for them to make a run in the playoffs.
