Yep. We came out in that motion offense and got some nice plays, but UCLA has adjusted and we've got nothing for them. Can't even get a shot to the rim on most possessions.CelticCat wrote:Cats really struggling, our typical score as little as possible in the last 8 minutes of the game routine.

Well guys. I don't want to say this team is bad, but they're clearly not very good. Fortunately (I guess) that could still get us into the Big Sky tournament where maybe we can catch a litte bit of magic. I'm not to hopeful.

i agree BB. going into the game i was pretty much expecting it to end the way that it did. however, upon seeing that ucla is really as bad as i thought, and how we played with them for a half i thought they might have been able to keep it in reach.BelgradeBobcat wrote:Well guys. all in all...i have the same thoughts and fears i had a few weeks ago and it'll take a miracle for us to make the big sky tourney. let's just say that this team will have to get a LOT better for us to even think about making it. however, there are some things we just can't change and that is our size. we are so small it's not even funny.
however, i think there is a much bigger issue in play here. this team doesn't have any confidence in eachother. it's so obvious they might as well be shouting it. i'm not calling out anyone individually because i think this is a serious TEAM issue. but for whatever reason, no one is wanting to step up besides erik and bobby. and to be very honest, these two guys are trying to do too much as well. so i don't know if it's the other guys just knowing that these two are going to be launching shots so they don't even bother trying.....or if erik and bobby have so litte faith in the other guys that when the game is close they feel the need to "take over".
but let's be honest....guarding us isn't going to be tough for anyone. you can sag off our shooters because you know none of them are going to make anything deep. then you basically clog the lane and wait for erik or bobby to try and create something. both of these guys tried going 1 on 3 no less than 5 times each last night. and let me say again i'm not calling out these guys specifically because maybe in their hearts they feel that playing this way is the only way we might win. but with all due respect to these guys, they simply aren't talented enough to take a game over by themselves. rodney stuckey could do this. anthony johnson could do this. even lilliard appears to be a guy who could do this. we don't have a guy like this so they better figure out fast that this team is just that....a team. so i don't know if it's the supporting cast that needs to nut up and start playing....or if our "stars" need to use their supporting cast a little more but the style of play i saw last night won't win us many games, if any come conference play.

You guys do know that 6-6 is good for fourth in our league right now? We need to get back on track but this team is not horrible. We say the were all just telling it like it is... well we have two guys that are in the top ten in scoring... noone has that. We do need more from others but I think its coming. And for the smart ass comments about out two" stars" they are better than any other non injured player in our conference (lilliard ). Huse will get these guys ironed out come Wednesday and see.

Re: Cats vs UCLA (Online streaming?)
just because we disagree with you doesn't make our comments smart ass. i have followed cat hoops very closely over the years and nothing about this years team stands out as any better than previous years. it's not like we're bashing these guys just for fun. it's not like we just can't wait to see this team lose. we have all said just the opposite and i have said several times i would love to be wrong on this one. but i don't care about stats right now. we haven't played a single conference game yet. i like the guys effort so far but it's going to take a lot more than 2 guys trying to take over games for this team to be successful. that isn't smart-assed....just fact.cats22 wrote:You guys do know that 6-6 is good for fourth in our league right now? and without trying to sound like a jerk....if you really think that rush and howard are the #2 and #3 best players in this conference behind lilliard i'm fearful you don't know a ton about the players in this conference....

No one had ANY confidence in the 2008-09 team prior to the season and more importantly going into the Big Sky Tourney, but they were able to put together one of the most memorable runs I have seen in the tournament (minus the final game outcome). Let's not put a nail in this team's coffin yet...they are athletic and they have senior leadership and that can make a huge difference as the season goes on.

FWIW, the Bobcat team scares me. I think they have plenty of talent, and they are going to win some games (hopefully not against the Griz, but I certainly wouldn't bet money that it doesn't happen). But they don't have the two best players in the conference not named Lillard. Sorry.

ya i agree with that. that is what is going to be the most annoying about this team is i think it's going to be a roller coaster. they are certainly capable of beating every single team in the conference. but i also see them losing games that they should win. it's gonna be another cardiac season i think filled with highs and lows.GrizinWashington wrote:FWIW, the Bobcat team scares me. and i think most would be in full agreement that rush and howard are not the two best players in the conference not named lilliard. that one was a head-scratcher.

Re: Cats vs UCLA (Online streaming?)
well, i'd be more inclined to go with them before howard or rush. at least right now. in fact, i don't think there is any question that qvale is. that kid is a stud. cherry has more promise than almost anyone i have seen in the conference so far. he's a top ten player in this league for sure and when all is said and done i wouldn't be surprised if he was the best for a season or two....wbtfg wrote:I think he's insinuating that Qvale and Cherry are...
fwiw i think howard and rush are top 10 talents as well.
