Very well said. Some would like to spend recklessly so that we, too, could have an obscene deficit in our athletic department operating fund. That Griz envy gets us every time.Bay Area Cat wrote:
Does this fall into the same basket as the rest of the stadium conversations (things we hope the athletic department realizes would be nice to do) in that the presumed premise of the conversation is "If current cash flow concerns were not an issue...."?
I think it falls into the Griz envy catagory .... If they have it, we need it too!

Yes, we have heard this tired drumbeat for years and years. Maybe if a few UM alums (those are people who attended college at UM, for those who are only familiar with UM as a sports team) and friends of UM would donate more of their cash to the academic side of things as opposed to donating exclusively to athletics, then UM could free up more money to subsidize their athletics a bit more. MSU has to pay for all of their academic and athletic stuff with about the same amount of state money as UM -- it's just a matter of shifting the money to the areas that get the least support from non-state sources.bearBAC wrote:"we, too, could have an obscene deficit in our athletic department operating fund."
Sounds like you think the "state" money pooring into the kitten athelitic budget is not running a current deficit?
We all have heard about the past ones !!!! My "state" taxes are paying a heck or alot more for kitty football than griz football
So... if you want more state cash going to UM athletics, start writing checks to UM academics.

Last I talked with the Athletic Department, yes Montana State is paying and has met its yearly budget the last couple of years, furthermore we have never lied about our dept. A few years back we did end up with a pretty good deficet mainly due our construction/improvements of the football stadium. Since most of our accountants graduated from MSU we were able to Notify the State of our problem and have managed to wittle it down rather nicely. Coaches bit the bullet not hiring assistants, cutting recruiting budgets etc.. One thing you can say about our deficite it was not cause by the basketball coach, making phone calls on the University phone cards, uncontrolled use and acountabe use of pro card ,or to pay for extended vactions to New York for Athletic Dept accountants. Nor, did we ever lie about it. Do not compair "accounting errors" with MSU's. The Griz accountants redefined the the word incompidence.

Please give me a list of new buildings on both campuses and their primary funding sources. Presumably you are trying to make a point, but I'm not sure what it is.bearBAC wrote:Being you are the all knowing being Bac,

How many more new buildings have the kittens gotten than the griz, on campus the last ten year ? Way less?

Okay, I'm done with this topic. My tired brain can't handle trying to read any more posts that read like Klingon subtitles [edit - make that "like Yoda after smoking too much weed"].

Good lord, bearBAC, do you even know what a friggin college is? Have you ever been near one? Sorry for the outburst, but I'm downright offended that you are even posting on this college-oriented website. Learn to friggin write English, buddy. My head hurts from looking at numbers all day, and now I have to dig out the Rosetta stone of illiterates to get through your posts. PLEASE STOP! YOU'RE KILLING ME!
Your name is funny, though. You get kudos from parading around with that, at least.

Preseason injuries are always killer, and UM still practices on natural grass at the River Bowl.....The difference in injuries on SprinTurf vs. natural grass has obviously not been drastic, but in my recent memory it's slimmed down the injury level a bit.
BozoneCat -- Just remember how much press covers the Griz in Missoula, that's why Hauck, Glenn, Dennehy, Read, etc. have all closed practices at one time or another in the past....Many distractions.....

Bobby does make for some comical parallels...how about Mel Gibson in Conspiracy Theory?
I don't think you can coach from a "hate" perspective... like a fan. If you allow your emotions to get involved you start to overcompensate, your vision gets clouded and you lose sight of the ultimate goal.. I think that's why it's just possible that Baby will be the friz's Earle Solomon... if that's possible with the program they have established.
Kramer hates ISU....and he's lost to them the last two years!
