Bobcat Gameday Experience

If you were hired on as the new Assistant to the Marketing Director (or whatever the title is), what sorts of things would you propose to better the game day experience for Bobcat Football? New tailgate rules, new game day traditions, new mascot on a skid steer loader, facility improvements, etc.

I think our team is ready to move up to the next level, what can we do as fans and administrators do to take our game day experience to the next level?

Better music selections that get the crowd into the game. I am still wondering why we had no music and cannon at our playoff game. The griz did, you could hear it on the TV broadcast. I think getting businesses to sell things right outside the stadium. Close off the endzone, if we can't get more bleachers now at least put up a fence that will keep some of the wind out and noise in. Set up package deals with motels, restaurants, and game tickets for out of town guests. Charge to get into the tailgate if need be but don't require a game ticket. Get the coaches show on some time other than 6:30 in the morning. FLYOVERS every game. More school incentive to be in the marching band or just make it a pep band that is louder. Nothing better than hearing a great Drum line.

A larger band. The ability to tailgate without buying a game ticket. A better sound system. Skyboxes over the student side. New seating in both end zones that attach to the existing seating on the sides.

Yes, get rid of the new dumb tailgate rule.
Also - I don't know if the crowd got more into the game during the playoff game because there was NO MUSIC... Maybe just play the music sometimes. Give the crowd a chance to get into it in close situations.

I read on another message board that the cannon would have been allowed if it boomed for both teams.

Paved parking lots. Better fields for the kids to go play on when they get tired of watching the game with their parents. Get the cops out of the area immediately in front of the ticket lines. More activities for families during the tailgating. Get the Greeks a purpose in life in the pregame rituals. Cut all the damn trees down, we're an engineering school for cripes sake--they ruin the views of the mountains. More brick and mortar, especially under the bleachers. Either get dressing rooms around the new practice facility or get a ritual whereby the fans and students line their entrance to the stadium. Did I say sell beer at games?

I was down at UAS this past week and we were talking about the missing cannon. Apparently, because of the holiday weekend, they weren't able to get any volunteers to be there and shoot it off. It's funny what a big difference it really does make.

I would do two things;
One, ask the rabid fans what they would want, kind of what you're doing here. Exploratory if you will.

Two, I would travel to other venues (known for a great atmosphere) and get some ideas. I know a lot of you hate the Griz but they wouldn't be a bad place to start. You want your own identity but that doesn't mean it's unlike some place else.

Tailgating:
The tailgating, IMO, could use a facelift. Put in grass, trees, permanent bathrooms, etc. Remember, tailgating is a huge part of the game day experience. Many people travel hundreds of miles and they want more than just a 2 1/2 hour game. Also, the bandwagoners (yes, every school has them and needs them) could benefit from this. The better time they have outside the stadium will lower the importance of what happens inside the stadium (i.o.w. if they have a great time outside, losing won't be as big a deal and they'll come back regardless). I don't know if the MSU scholarship/athletic program has public tent setup for anyone to join and buy beer/burgers/hotdogs, but that would be great. Have a band as well.

Champ:
Give this person a scholy and get someone with a personality and gymnast abiltiy. If you use the skid steer idea I'll be expecting some tickets in a skybox for Cat Griz next year.

Game:
New sound system if nothing else. Obviously great music makes a difference. See if the guy that made a deal with the Griz on their video board will jump on the Bobcat bandwagon (even though he's a former Griz). Flyovers, parachuters, etc. The Denver Broncos do a cool thing when the opposing team has an incomplete pass. The announcer goes "Throw to #88 and the pass IS", the whole crowd yells "IN......COM.....PLETE!!!!" Very cool, listen to it on TV the next time the Broncos are on.

Band:
Bigger, better, and louder is better. Have them go around the stadium before the game even starts.

I got all kinds of stuff.

This job is my dream job, but unfortunately I'm still a couple years out from my Marketing degree. Maybe in a decade or so.

I thought the crowd was more involved at the playoff game when there wasn't music blaring between every play--more like a real football game.

Get the businesses downtown more involved with decorating their windows and also some banners over Main Street during the season. Missoula does a much better job than we do. Advertise specials for out of town visitors on rooms and meals. Get the band more involved in the tailgating.

I ate at Fuddruckers after the Furman game. Only one poster of any kind in the entire establishment that had a thing to do with the hometown college

Don't include the cat/griz game in the endzone season passes. On the years the game is in Bozeman all the GRiz fans buy the season passes because it's a cheap way to be guaranteed a ticket to the cat/griz game, and the rest of the season the seats sit nearly empty. I liked it this year when lots of people filled the end zone every game to up the noise level and the support for the team.
