You wouldn't believe how much the student body at App loves it.Gordo wrote:It is definitely something I've never ever seen before by an Administrator of a university at a game but I appreciate his enthusiasm for his team to try and get the crowd going. Personally that would not "pump" me up to see an older gentlemen riding a plywood surfboard awkwardly but to each his own. I think he could have without the sign that disparaged the opponent before the game was over. Hopefully someone handed him the sign and he didn't read it and it was an innocent mistake.

What was so bad about the poster itself?Had a picture of a goofy looking Bobcat that said victim #26...maybe I'm missing something, but its a football game and all in good fun....As for the face paint, nobody cares about that,it was his actions that have drawn disgustCatsRback wrote:As the leader of the institution, it's great that he steps up and supports his team. I wouldn't mind seeing Gamble once or twice at a game (outside of the VIP tent).
the poster was WAY over board - regardless of where he got it, he should have immediately tossed it away. He's been at App State for 20 some years - so it's obvious he's not 20 years old....

After watching that garbage, my opinion is that I now see how "HOT HOT HOT" got the green light.HelenaCat95 wrote:What does the board think of the behavior of ASU's Chancellor?
He was seen on ESPN riding a board with the NC trophy (not really a big deal with me)
He was also seen on ESPN waving a sign with an anemic looking MSU Bobcat on it that said, "Victim #26. Who's next".
If you're 22 and drunk, that's a pretty clever sign. If you're the head of the institution, I think it's pretty immature.
I'd like to hear the Board's opinion, and if there are any ASU posters still around, I'd like to hear their thoughts.

How is what he did "classless"? He was getting the crowd pumped up as he's been doing the entire year. I laughed at the "Victim 26" sign being there live. I even got my pic with the Nat'l Title trophy before the game. While it's seemingly odd, the students LOVE him. He hangs out with the students in the tailgating lots, and he's a darn good chacellor as far as I'm concerned, not for his school spirit, but for what he's done with the school.bobcatmaniac wrote:That is all well and good, I thought it was a little odd. Kids will ALWAYS cross the line in behavior etc. even in college. If the administration acts without any class, I can imagine what the student body is capable of. Just my .02

BTW- From what has been said about Chancellor Peacock, he sounds like a heck of a guy and you're lucky to have someone who cares that much about the program.
Folks, I think the key here is that it's all in fun. It was a college football game, not a CPA licensing exam or keynote speech to a professional academic seminar. Dr. Peacock rose through the ranks at ASU from Dean of our College of Business. He's a serious man, nationally-known in his field. He's also an unpretentious, down-to-earth guy, a husband, father and a guy who might be your best next-door neighbor. He enjoys having contact with students, but his "cheerleading" is not intended to insult or offend our opponents. If you met him, you'd instantly like him. He's a fellow who'd like you and enjoy talking with you. Just my thoughts.
As an aside, I think Saturday's game and national exposure was good for both MSU and ASU. I wish it were more feasible for our schools to meet in a lot of sports for OOC competition. The distance is a killer. We had a home and home men's basketball exchange with you guys back in the late 90s. You spanked us pretty good at Breeden Fieldh'se and escaped our house with a 2 pt. OT win. It was kinda nice to finally have some success against your B'cats. Maybe there'll be another time for us to meet.

I thought it was great. It made for a fun family type atmosphere with the crowd. Great crowd/tradition they have there. When you win 26 in a row at home that is a good way to put into the minds of the players each and every game. Great teams DO NOT lose at home (you defend your turf) and if MSU is going to be a perennial playoff team we need to WIN ALL OUR GAMES AT HOME. We need to REPLICATE that atmosphere we had against FURMAN EVERY GAME next year. The 12th man really does make a difference and there is no reason if we can do it for one game why we cannot make the effort for these players EACH AND EVERY GAME!MSU01 wrote:I don't have a problem with it...he was just having some fun with the student section. Who says the chancellor/president has to sit up in a luxury box drinking Merlot all game?

Last week he was walking on the track with the NC trophy and a student with him was carrying the "25-in-a-row" sign. He pointed at the student and made the remark "I'm not allowed to carry that sign, that's why he (the student) is here." That sign had a man choking a chicken (Chanticleer), versus this one just having a caricature of a bobcat, so I'm sure that had something to do with it.

I had no problem with the sign but actually had more distaste for him parading around the trophy. That was last year. This was a quarterfinal game. I guess we should have brought our 3 trophy's, and the griz should have Monty carry their 2 around the field. That went beyond firing up a crowd and was more rubbing into the opposition. Wait until after the game for that.

Actually, I thought is was very tame in comparison to some of the events I've been to with some of the SEC teams. And what we fail to get is how far MSU has to go in order to have an everygame tailgate experience, get the crowd into each and every game instead of our stuffed shirts telling me to sit down, as an example. I've been to games, and none in College Station where we'll go next year, where the fans are standing the entire game. But, he wouldn't be a "good fit" in Bozo

I didn't realize he was in front of the MSU sections. In fact, I thought he was on the west side the whole game. If he was waving the trophy in front of the vis sections, then yes, that is a bit over the top IMOtetoncat wrote:I had no problem with the sign but actually had more distaste for him parading around the trophy. I think it was great,
I wish our administration would put down there Appletini (The Herd, ESPN, if you listen every morning)or Merlot, remove the broomstick from there butt and start enjoying and adding to the atmosphere. As far as classless that is a grey area, everyone will be offended at some point but that point is different for everyone, I take the cat depiction with a grain of salt. Life is to short to get offended at stupid crap like that.
