Agreed, the roll punt has its place in certain circumstances, but not every time. Also, if you are going to roll punt, find someone that can do it. We just happened to be lucky with TL because he could roll punt very well, and you always had to respect his running/passing possibility out of the position. We've had three different guys this year take shots at it and none can do it consistently. That 15 yarder today was a real gem. I don't care who you have lined up out on the field, freshman or seniors, that kind of punt just won't get it done.Weltercat wrote:Nice PostBelgradeBobcat wrote:Correct me if I'm wrong, but we went to the roll punt a couple of years ago because our lack of depth left us with some pretty suspect punt coverage and we were getting gashed? Dan Davies commented on the post game show that our punt and kick teams won't be so heavily stocked with freshmen next year-we have some depth returning. Our kick coverage was pretty good all year so it stands to reason that our punt coverage would be fine too. Kramer needs to put the game back in the hands of the players. Roll punt in certain situations but when backed up behind the 35 or so just punt normally.1BadBobcat wrote:The roll punt absolutely needs to die an insanely freakin' violent death. So what if the opposing team gets a decent run-back every once in awhile? I'd rather take my chances with a punter who can nail one high and long. Tyler Bolton can punt normal - I have seen him do it in warmups. In fact, if I am not mistaken, he was a punter in high school in Great Falls and a decent one. Did you see those short fields the Griz had to work with all day? It's a good thing they have a mediocre offense or the score coulda been hideous

I'm a Griz fan and impressed with what I've read here. Pretty classy.
There's just not much room to complain or dwell over a game like this. Both teams played incredibly physical today, and had their chances to win. I bit my nails over your defense, and my heart had all it could take on the final MSU drive that seemed destiny.
I'm not a coach. But today, the punt style seemed potentially a great strategy/matchup against our special teams play. A few harsh punts, but it could have been worse.
Great game. And I love the support.
