It isn't fair to compare people posting their (hope that's right) opinions in simple, casual writing to journalists with degrees and editors. I am not an English professor and I try my best to use proper grammer when making my post. I make many mistakes and often change my wording when I can't spell what I want to. I use and, but, therefore, however, and a lot way to much for the liking of even myself. Sorry, but this doesn't make my opinion or anyone else's less valid. Where I lack in spelling I try to make up sports knowledge and love for the Cats. Feel free to edit I would love an English lesson.

This board, in my never to be humble opinion, is a good thing. For me, it's nice to have a "clearing house" to go to for things regarding MSU Athletics. There seem to be many people close to the Athletic Dept. and the University that I don't find out things six months after they happen. And I don't mean gossip.kmax wrote:I just want to set the record straight here, MSU Athletics did not come out and criticize BobcatNation. This all started due to a random comment from rtb, I think in the stadium renovation thread, about the Athletics department not really liking BN. While they haven't and would likely never say anything public against BN, it has been shown and made known in other ways that some members of the Athletics department would be just as happy if this (or any board like it for that matter) didn't exist. To be fair, there are others within MSU Athletics who see BN as a mostly positive place and have used it in very positive ways, see Mike Carignan for a great example.Bleedinbluengold wrote:I missed MSU Athletics criticizing BN?
For example, I was able to buy one of the throwback Jerseys last month. Never would have happened without this board. The news on the stadium construction plans is welcome. Even knowing that barechestcat--who I doubt I have ever met--was selling thundersticks brought a smile to my face, in spite of the fact I couldn't be there to participate. Finally, just the act of writing this post just gave me a good idea, which I won't bother to share right now.
As for some at MSU not liking BN, I would ask if they would rather have us shoot off our mouths (or fingers as the case may be) here, or in the dark shadows of the Rockin' R.
The general demeanor here is better than on eGriz, but that could just be because there are more people. We seem to be able to "self-moderate" fairly well here. Some posts cross the line, but even in those I have not gotten the feeling that there is any malice intended, just very strong opinions.
Keep BN going. It's a great thing for Cats fans, especially those of us hundreds or thousands of miles away from our true home.
(Oh, and my wife of an English teacher would kill me if I posted something with poor grammer, oops, grammar and spelling.)

Being one of the more popular people on here...
I wanted to echo my sentiments in regards to spelling and grammar. My take on it is this: using proper grammar and spelling reflects positively on you. I think that's important because Cats fans have generally (in my experience) considered themselves not as obnoxious as our counterparts to the northwest.
But spelling correctly and using proper grammar is a different way of having manners. It is my opinion that having manners shows others that you have respect for them.
Unfortunately for myself, if I hadn't gotten off on the wrong foot with a lot of people I probably would have revealed my identity by now.
In short, I think the message boards are a great way for the people's voices to be heard (I know, I know, that's a passive sentence). If we were nothing more than a nuisance, I can't imagine why the Athletic Department would care what any of us think.

I've been thinking about this topic and I'd like to comment. I like BobcatNation for several reasons. The first is that it's a great place to discuss Bobcat Athletics. It's nice to have somewhere where Bobcat fans can come together and discuss topics in a civil fashion. A lot of good information has come out of this site. Yes, some rumors have been created and it has caused some problems. MSU Athletics does not necessarily have to like it, but it gives them a great opportunity to read the opinions and hear what the fans have to say. Mostly I like it here because it gives me a place to discuss what I think of Bobcat Athletics and I will continue to the best of my ability to add quality discussions to this board.
