Earthquake

Was it felt pretty much statewide? It freaked the s**t out of me!!
Yeah I must have felt one or more of the earlier weaker ones, because I was already awake when the biggest one hit at about 12:30. Then there was the 2nd one about 10 minutes later that was almost as strong, and then I felt another one maybe about half an hour later than that. The third one was fairly strong, but weaker than the first two. My first thought was that it was a bad thunderstorm with high winds, but the way my place shook felt completely different than how it feels when we get a bad wind. It was awhile before I finally figured out that it must have been an earthquake, and then pretty soon I started seeing some reports about it online.91catAlum wrote:Me too, here in Helena. The shaking lasted a really long time, it seemed like. Plus we felt about 3 after shocks.
According to people on Facebook, it was felt from Billings to Spokane.

Did you guys hear the noise before the biggest one hit? It was really a strange sounding noise....I don't even know how to describe it, but it was fairly loud, and unlike anything I've ever heard before. At first I thought it must have been a jet flying low right over my place.91catAlum wrote:Yep, 3.7 it was just a little one.John K wrote:Oh yeah? Really? No I didn't, I was in a dead sleep when it hit. Took me a few seconds to comprehend what was happening. And then it just kept going for about 30 seconds! Was definitely the longest earthquake I've ever experienced.John K wrote:Did you guys hear the noise before the biggest one hit? I've never really experienced one before so it took me quite awhile before I finally figured out that it must have been an earthquake. I must have woken up from one of the earlier milder ones, because I was awake for a little while before the biggest one hit, and that noise really freaked me out....more than the actual quake probably. My ex-wife and I were in bed watching TV during that one from about 10 years ago. She said she felt it but I didn't notice anything. I might have dozed off before it hit or something...I don't really remember now, but she said she felt it and noticed the mirror shaking.91catAlum wrote:Really? I would think that a quake actually would work like a compactor. I think it will make you have to work harder.77matcat wrote:I'm planting grass and need to loosen up the soil. Wonder if I won't need to work so hard. Could be a blessing for me.

Won't that compact even more. I think the grass is a goner. Gravel does not grow as fast.77matcat wrote:Hmmmm. Maybe I'll water for a day or so first
