Looking to get a laptop for my business, mainly for travelling for sales calls, and tradeshow ordering and remote work.

There are two good sales going on between an HP ProBook 450 G4 at Newegg - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6834266510

And a Lenovo Thinkpad 13 - http://shop.lenovo.com/us/en/laptops/th ... 3-windows/

By the time you change the specs around on the Thinkpad, they are both about $640. The HP is clearly the more powerful of the two, but I like the size of the Lenovo, and the Lenovo has dual band wifi, which will help keep me connected at tradeshows.

Any tips or suggestions on business laptops, these two or otherwise?

How much of the power will you actually use? How many programs will you have open at once? Will you be doing much math?

I never do much math.

I can't imagine I'll have very many things open at once. Maybe Excel, Outlook, a browswer, and remote control software like logmein. And PDFs and images. Nothing too intensive.

Get an iPad. You don't do much besides play clash of clans anyway.

If you are not a power user, go with the price. 99% of all computers are used for email, web surfing and what we are doing. It is really the programs you are buying not the hardware

Other options are Lenovo mid-range series, but those are in the $900s (30% off right now with a coupon code).

I made the switch to a Macbook Pro a few years ago and it's awesome. Yes, you are going to pay more up front for it, but the capabilities and speed of a Mac are exceptional.

To keep the Windows capability (mainly to use scheduling software), I've got a virtual machine installed on my Mac with Windows 7 on it.

I've bought several computers and I think I've come up with a pretty good buying process:

I buy the absolute cheapest computer that is customizable and then max out the memory. All I do is surfing and spreadsheeting. Of course my approach doesn't factor in any kind of work that's graphic intensive.

I think the base price of my current puter was around $600 and the final tally after upgrades was $750. I also deselect any Microsoft software options, that will save you $300.
