Tablet Advice

Post by SaxCat » Tue May 15, 2012 3:20 pm

I am looking into getting a tablet. Any advice on this? I am leaning towards either a Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, or the Ipad 3. I am already pretty familiar with the Ipad and what it has to offer. I am looking to see if anyone here has knowledge/experience with the Galaxy, or a different Android tablet.

Are you looking at the 10" tablets? It kind of depends on what you think you will use it for. 7" tablets the Lenovo direct from them can usually be had for $189, it has two cameras, and built in gps without a phone connection.

I looked at 7" tablets but they just feel like a toy. I am looking into 10" tablets pretty exclusively.

It depends on what you are planning on using it for.

I have had a Motorola Xoom for just over a year now and very few tablets have come close to offering everything it does in the same package. It is heavier than the ipad by quite a bit but also has a dedicated graphics card and decent battery life. I love my android tablet and use it mostly for reading and referencing PDF's and watching movies. Most of them are running Android 4.0 or better, which takes a little getting used to as some of the traditional ways of moving about the OS have changed and it means a few apps won't be compatible. The drawback I see to the android tablets that might be an advantage for the iPad is the lack of any real focus on getting tablet versions of applications out on the market (this has improved in the last year) and the guarentee that you have with the iOS products that every application in the app store will work (well in theory with their app approval process anyway).

Honestly it comes down to whether or not you already have the apple products and iTunes that would make it easy to use the iPad (if you don't use iTunes already the iPad might be a bad choice) and what, if any, accessories you want for the tablet.

This past December, I picked up a Lenovo 10.1" tablet when they had the blowout price of $299.00! It's a 32gb tablet running the latest Android OS. It's been a fantastic tablet. Email is Google based, and it has access to the entire Android app market, and Lenovo has it's own app market as well designed especially for the tablet. It's been great so far!!!

Actually comparing the Thinkpad Tablet to the Ipad 2 right now for business purposes. The price you paid for your Lenovo was an absolute steal compared to what I am seeing currently.
