Adding a personal thanks to a member of our board, soldier668. He is traveling out of Afghanistan today for a month of leave to be home for Cat/Griz, Thanksgiving, and some Montana hunting! Thanks for your service and glad you'll be at the game!!

Amen barechest -- thank you to all our Veterans who served and sacrificed. My personal thanks to my grandfather, who was a gunner on the U.S.S. West Virginia during WWII that helped clear Iwo Jima for our Marines to land, and who fought in Okinawa; to my uncle, an Army staff sergeant who gave his life in a minefield in Vietnam; and to my father, who forfeited a college basketball scholarship because it was more honorable to serve his country in the Navy.

great post. My personal thanks go out to my father, grandfather, brother-in-law, and current and former coworkers. I kept reminding myself to display my flag, but in a rush to get out of the house this morning, it slipped my mind. Only when I was driving down Euclid Ave this morning, I noticed someone putting flags on all of the light poles. I turned around and put my flag up... Thanks to all veterans!

Amen Barechest ! And to all the past and present Service Men and Women, I also say Thank You.
My personal thanks goes to my Dad who along with his 3 best friends left college at the onset of WWII to serve. They were going to go to the Marines, but one of them had a back problem and didn't pass the physical, so they all ended up in the Navy. Boot camp for these North Dakotans was in Northern Idaho at Camp Farragut. Dad ended up in the Pacific Theatre on the aircraft carrier, USS Ticonderoga. At the end of the war, he was able to witness (from their ship berthed nearby), the people on the deck of the USS Missouri where General MacArthur accepted the surrender of the Japanese.
A term I learned from him and extra points go to those who know what the term "flight skins" means.

Flight support personnel on carriers could earn a few extra bucks "Flight Skins" each month by taking a flight with one of the carrier pilots. Although Dad didn't speak much about the war, he did relay that he was on one of these flights over a remote island airstrip, when the pilot radioed in a "Mayday, Mayday, aircraft coming in on one engine." Well that got the ground troops scrambling and the pilot got in a bit of hot water when he tried to rationalize that their plane only had one engine to begin with.
