A few weeks ago I was at AT&T bitching about how bad their service is (I do this every 3 days) and I made a special trip to JJs afterwards simply to tell the manager how great the service was there compared to......................lets say AT&T. HE said thanks and asked if I was going to eat there today. I said no, I came in only to compliment them. He said I could always get a sandwich for later.........................so I ordered the gargantuan he told them not to charge me for it. I said no, I will pay for it, I didnt come in to get free food. He wouldnt have it so I ended up leaving a $10 tip to the employees.
I will never eat at Subway again.
I will never eat at Subway again either. I went into one in GF at about 8:58 one day....they don't open until 9:00 but the gate was open (it was in a convenience store). The girl behind the counter was just finishing getting everything set up, and I started to give her my order, and she said "sorry....we don't open until 9:00". I mean....are you frickin' kidding me? She couldn't take an order from a customer two minutes before their official opening time?? I could hardly believe that she was serious, but she was. If I was the manager of that place and heard about something like that happening, she would be fired so fast it would make your head spin.

Guess you haven't noticed fast food places go through lots of people. At minimum wage, they don't have to put up with people like you.

So what did you guys do for two minutes? Staring contest? Rock Paper Scissors? Thumb Wrestle?

No, I walked out and went someplace else.

People like me?? You really believe I was being so unreasonable? People like her will probably never work anywhere but fast food places for minimum wage.

Oh....maybe next time try leg wrestling on the counter, or maybe a quick game of "guess what number I'm thinking of"...it will save on gas
P.S. Life is waaaaay too short to get pissed off about having to wait two whole minutes. When life hands you lemons, find some tequila and make some margaritas....or if you're Lady GaGa, you could just make an outfit out of them.

just to throw in my two cents, it was probably a manager who told her not to open until 11 since they usually don't let the "sandwich artists" make upper level decisions

Have you ever tried to leg wrestle a Subway Sandwich Artist? Those bastards don't fight fair, they use prison rules.

Service isn't a huge deal for me, it doesn't have to be amazing, but it can't be terrible. It's about the quality of the food. If I avoided any place that I've received bad service at over the years, there wouldn't be many places left for me to eat. Now if the food is consistently bad, cold, old, or skimpy, then I'll avoid the place. I've worked in the food industry so I'm a little more forgiving than some, perhaps.
And about the two minute thing. I've been a cook for several places. If your station isn't entirely set up to handle a rush, and you still have 2 minutes to get it set up, then I would also make you wait 2 minutes. I've been in situations where management has let customers come in early, when I'm not fully ready to roll yet. Next thing you know you have an odd early hour rush, and you are behind the entire time because your station wasn't set up fully, and you are scrambling more than you would be otherwise, and having to run around getting the things you hadn't set up yet. Yes sir if I had my way, I'da made you wait 2 minutes too.
I suppose you are the type of guy who also goes into a restaurant 5 minutes before they close, and orders a well done sirloin.

I love the one in GF. I often have my sandwich before I even pay. #9 no mayo, bbq chips, and ice tea. I would totally disagree with you on the service...they are top notch in my book
Not if you got the gal I got at the register.
Instantly turns her back on me as she hands me my sandwich and starts talking to a co-worker. When I ask her for a bag for the sandwich(she'd been told it was a go order), she tells me bags are down at the end of the counter( that is,
get it myself). WOW, if I'd have seen an adult behind the counter I would've spoke to them

So you'll never go back because they made you get your own to-go bag.

Back in my day, I had to make my own sandwich, and if I wanted a bag I had to weave the burlap myself.

Yes. She was told it was a "go" order to being with.
When I get told that after I've the person turns their back to me and start talking to a co-worker. Apparently it's more important to yap with a co-worker then ask a customer if "everything's ok", before turning you attention to other things.

PB and Staggering Ox (and Chalet Market in Blgs) are far superior products, in my ever-so-humble opinion.
I would say the sub is "barely a step up from an Albertson's sub" too if the only ingredients it consisted of were meat, cheese, and bread.....picky SOB.

Got to agree with you guys on this one. JJ's product is average at best. IMHO

ya their sandwiches are nothing amazing. however, when i'm getting fast food....my expectations are pretty neutral to be honest. but i'd probably be bragging about albertsons too if they could deliver an average sandwich to me in less than ten minutes!
as for the other stuff i think you guys are all right. if you are not happy with the service some place, and it is actually angering for you, it is certainly your right to never go back. but as CC said....if you start boycotting every place because of a little mediocre service you are going to run out of places to go. and probably give yourself an ulcer in the process!
bottom line...you get what you pay for. i don't expect the same quality or service from jimmy johns as i do from the oasis. if i did, i'd expect to pay more than 5 bucks for a sandwich!

I don't expect a whole lot from fast food service either.
I do expect a basic level of courtesy/helpfulness which I didn't get in my instance. I would expect this at any price point.

Very happy to see Jimmy John's open in Bozeman. Their sandwiches are quite good (the bread is fantastic) and reasonably priced, but the best thing is that there aren't a million different toppings to choose from and how fast they get the sandwiches made even when the place is packed. I have had one too many trips to Subway during which I get caught in line behind someone who pulls out a hand-written list and proceeds to take about half an hour ordering six different sandwiches with six different sets of toppings and it takes for-damn-ever. Not that that annoys me or anything.
Perhaps the best thing is how they sell the day old loaves of bread for 50 cents each - it's a bit crunchy but still damn good for the price!
