MSU enrollment 14,600

That's some fast growth. Largest enrollment ever.

MSU - 16 team National Champions (most recent 2024); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

Is it coincidence that our football team is having success?

Build a flipping parking garage already.

Don't let this distract you from the fact that the griz blew a 22-0 lead.

When do they break ground on the new dorms? How many more students will be able to live on campus? Who will lead the inevitable expansion for the stadium? I understand we're almost out of standing room only tickets for the EWU game.

They are building new student apartments. There is only going to be like 80 beds added. Glad they moved that to the top of the list when we have about 1,000 more freshman than there is room for

When my 2 kids showed interest in MSU, holy cow, Katie bar the door. MSU was sending emails, flyers etc practically everyday. They really pursued our kids and they came up with more $$$. MSU was agressive

My daughter was interested in um and all they sent was 1 packet and a just a few dollars for a scholarship.

Needless to say my kids and $$ are at MSU

My son did not choose to attend MSU this fall :( , but they were calling/mailing on a weekly basis from about February to June. Nice to see they are aggressively recruiting.

I have to believe that MSU's increase in enrollment, and UM's decrease, can be at least partially attributed to the events that have transpired in Missoula over the past year or so. UM has had record setting enrollment numbers for the past several years, and now all of a sudden they're down this year. I don't think that's just a coincidence. I'm not saying that it's a huge factor, but it has to be on the mind of some potential students (particularly females), and in some cases it might be enough to influence their decision making process, for those who weren't otherwise leaning towards one school versus the other.

Any data on change in enrollment by gender?

I am more inclined to attribute it to two factors:

1. a lag effect of the bad economy.
Enrollments are up everywhere, but where are they up the most? Schools that have strong science, technology, and education programs. It reflects the structural differences between UM as a liberal arts school, and MSU as an Ag and engineering school.

2. The quality of leadership.
Dr. Cruzado has been able to take these tough economic times and maintain the image that MSU is a vibrant, dynamic place where real learning and preparation for this economy happens. She has articulated a vision of what MSU is, what it brings to the state, and what it can offer the prospective student. Her vision is enticing and exciting. Conversely, Royce Engstrom has not captured the attention of the community. He has offered no vision for UM. His overall policy seems similar to Gerald Ford's foreign policy: fighting wildfires as they pop up. Sure, one of the major wildfires he has had to deal with is the series of scandals, accusations, and investigations. However, has he offered any real leadership that would convince people that a)it is going to get better, or b)UM is still a great place to be for academics?

Organizations take on the character of their leader.
