It will be interesting to see how college social life continues to evolve as more and more of this information is available to everyone in the palm of their hand (or perhaps, soon in their glasses).

Re: Social media killing college bars?
Enjoyed the article and surprisingly, just two nights ago a few of us more "experienced" MSU folks were talking in one of the Flatheads watering holes about the transformation of the Gallatin since our days in the 60s and 70s. None of us could believe the Molly was still a viable option because it was a dive when we were there (don't know what it's like today for obvious reasons I suppose) and the Rocking R and the Oaks were two places no self-respecting human, let alone college kid, would be caught dead in...in fact, most of the cowboy crowd went to the Eagles or VFW because the original Little Johns was downstairs across the street. The Topper and the ones in the old Buttrey's Shopping Center were where the professors and their "understudies" went. The Oar House/After the Gold Rush was the only bar fairly close to campus, so the frats and sororites took up the vacuum. 19th appears to have taken downtowns place, but when we are there for the games, we somehow appreciate the fact that our dislike for hangovers or maybe we've just matured, those types of places aren't very appealing to us anymore.
I know the students today have it so much better than we did because a lot of times we couldn't find anyplace with a party until well after the bars were closed. As most of us were in ROTC together, we still are amazed that Montana still has a closing time of 2:00 with all the folks from different parts of the country settling there. I know the bars/motels in the traditional spring break locations don't seem to have kids with such discriminating tastes as the former bar owners lament in the article. Still can't believe the prices some of the bars get away with charging...God, I wish I knew half as much as I thought I did forty years ago...

Agreed with the bar prices. 4+ flipping dollars for a beer? Come on.
But as for Bozeman, Thursday-Saturday is so busy downtown that it's hardly worth it anymore. I do enjoy the bars mid-week if I can swing it but the hassle of the people on the weekend is incredible. I would be hard-pressed to believe that most of the bars here don't do well. Even at the "slow" times before 11 or so there's a significant amount of traffic.

Don't let this distract you from the fact that the griz blew a 22-0 lead.

Are you saying, "nobody goes downtown anymore because it's too crowded?"

Montana State IS what "they" think Montana is.

I'm saying I hardly do lol. I was mostly saying that I didn't see that article really relating to Bozeman.
