Time for a new cell... help

I'm been researching new Verizon phones the last few days, and am debating which to get.

I like the Motorola Razr for speed and power, but if I wanted something the size of a tablet that costs just as much... I'd get a tablet.

iPhone 4S is a nice unit, but as I generally can't afford a new phone until my upgrade comes in 2 more years, do I want a phone without 4G, even though it isn't in Montana yet?

And in last place, but still in consideration, is the HTC Trophy. Yes, a Windows 7 phone. They have gotten really good reviews, and while I enjoy the smartphone capabilities of the big players, all I really end up using is e-mail, social networking, and a few other simple apps.

Basically I am looking for a phone first, as my very outdated Droid Eris can't even make calls and send/receive texts without a hiccup anymore. I just want a stable platform, with good battery life. But the powerful phones are very tempting, I just can't see myself dropping $300 on a freaking phone.

Any other suggestions? I don't think the Bionic looks like a bad unit either.

But the Galaxy Nexus has me very intrigued, and it is supposedly due out this week now. Again though, $300.

4G won't be in Montana for a while, the dual antennas actually do provide great speed and if you only upgrade every 2 years or longer it will remain stable and working the whole time!

I just got the htc rezound a couple weeks ago. love it. decided against the i phone cause i already have an ipod touch. they are basically the same thing. Nice little perk with rezound is you get a pair of beats by dre ear buds. $99 value. it is a little smaller than the razr and has a large screen with awesome resolution. 32 gig included.

I just got the Samsung Charge for free. I really like it, but it is my first smartphone so I am still learning what I need and don't need.

WORM - what is the battery life like on the Rezound? I have been researching it and am very impressed with the specs, but if it can't go a whole workday on lighter use, I'm going to pass.

The Razr is just too big for me, although I love everything else about it.

Unfortunately, I'm leaning towards the 4S. Nice stable OS, and I don't have to worry about my phone being outdated within 2 months, or a future forced update of Android that my phone can't handle (this happened to my Eris, one of the reasons I rooted it).

I'm still very curious about the Galaxy Nexus though. Apparently it has been delayed, so I am going to wait to see how the first stock Ice Cream Sandwich phone run with Android 4.0.

This is the right decision! Not only is the platform stable but the hardware is well built! I had a Droid before the iPhone and while the OS was great with some features even better then the iPhone OS but the hardware starts to really crumble after 12-18 months. Everyone I know with a Motorola or HTC seems to have a similar experience where there are people with OLD iPhones that seem to still run great.

I have had a similar experience with my MacBook vs PC based laptops. The hardware is simply better!

That is a good point. I was able to immediately update to IOS 5 with my 3GS, just minus a few features available on the iPhone 4 or 4S. All for $50

Mine lasts about 2 days, using all day for internet, email, remote desktop. I did not get the extended battery, but i know someone who has it. that about doubles the battery life. You should have no problem with the battery life. The rezound will also get Ice cream sandwich in early 2012. Was one of reasons i went with this phone instead of waiting for samsung. You cant go wrong with iphone, and i would have went that route if i didnt own an ipod touch.

Played around with the Rezound and the Razr last night. While I like them both a lot, I see glimpses of the same issues I hated with my Eris, although far, far less prominent due to the superior processing power. But I am concerned, as rtb mentioned, that within 18 months I'll be hating it just as much as I hate my Eris now.

I'm now down to the Nexus vs the iPhone 4S. I have high hopes for a vanilla, native Android 4.0 ICS with the Galaxy. Supposedly will release next Tuesday. Will wait to read reviews and hopefully test it out myself. Otherwise, iPhone it is.
