Need Rental Car Advice

Post by gtapp » Sat Jul 30, 2011 3:28 pm

I usually fly to all the home games but if the Cats have back to back home games I try and drive and stay the week in Big Sky. I want to drive to Bozeman for the first two games and I want to bring my Mastiff. The problem is that my car does not accomadate a mastiff. So I need a rental car/SUV. The prices are pretty surprising. Anyone have advice on how to rent a small SUV and not pay a fortune?

I work part time for a rental car company and the companies I know about do not allow dogs in there cars. If you do it anyway there is a $250 cleaning fee and they have your credit card number so you are stuck

You could get a trailer and tow him behind you in that. Kinda like a horse trailer. :) I just saw this teardrop trailer for sale on CL in Big Sky:

Might be more than you want to spend, but then you'd have a cool camper, too! Just a thought...

With the exception of Dollar, Enterprise and a few others most national car companies accept dogs. Generally they have to be crated, and there may be a small fee, but as long as you bring the car back clean (NO hair), it's usually minimal.

Check with AAA if you're a member. They produce a great book every year about traveling with pets, and it covers rentals.
