Bozone
A little note wishing Bozone a speedy recovery. He suffered a broken back doing some rock climbing. He is doing well and in high-spirits. Everything is going way ahead of schedule and he is going to make a 100% recovery. Feel free to drop him a line. Good Luck Buddy!!!

Bozone, sorry to hear that. Good luck and hope you have a speedy recovery.

Thanks everyone, all the thoughts and prayers are undoubtedly helping. I finally got to come home yesterday, so I am glad to be out of the hospital after a week in there. The doctors and nursing staff were great, and I can't imagine what I would have done without the constant help and support of my family and friends.
The injury went like this: I was rock climbing, got to the top, and was rappelling down. I had only made it part of the way down when my belayer lost control and I ended up free-falling about 35-40 feet. In the split second that I had to think, I bent my knees and hips to absorb as much of the impact as I could, ended up hitting the ground (rock) on my heels, falling back and hitting my head (I was wearing a helmet). Thankfully, I was with trained PT's who did a great job of immobilizing my head and body.
I ended up suffering a burst fracture of my L1 vertebrae, it was only about 50% intact, with bone fragments all over the place. My spinal cord was 70% compromised by the impingement of the vertebrae. My ER doc told me he thought I am one of the luckiest patients he has ever seen in his 25+ years of practice in that I am not paralyzed. For my surgery, the doctor rebuilt my L1 with bone fragments out of my hip, fused T12-L1-L2, implanted two rods down my back, and tried to repair all the muscles and ligaments that were torn up.
The rehab will be a slow one, but I am okay with that. I don't get to do much more than walking for the first 4-6 weeks while the fusion takes hold. My doc said he wants me walking 1.25-1.5 miles by the time I see him in four weeks, and I was able to walk a half mile without a walker last night - so I'll be way past where he wants me by that time. After that, formal therapy will start and will go slow, including lots of pool therapy. I will never lose my positive attitude, and I know there is a reason God wants me to go through this. I am certain that I will become a better person and a better therapist through this ordeal. Again, I would like to thank everyone for their thoughts, prayers, and kind words!

Still not sure if I will be well enough to make it back to the games this fall. I sure hope so, that is definitely one of my goals, but I know it is a long and slow road ahead for me. Boise to Bozeman is about a 7 hour drive, so it might be tough for me to sit for that long... we'll just have to see. I'm crossing my fingers, though!!!HelenaCat95 wrote:Bozone,
All the best in your recovery.
Make sure your rehabbing is all done prior to tailgating season.
