I don't remember this being posted but Lea Boulanger a 6-2 freshman forward has transferred to Bishop's University in Quebec Canada

This was mentioned in another thread, but probably not a bad idea to start a new one for those who missed it. It will be interesting to see what the roster for next year looks like when it gets posted, if my math is correct MSU is currently one over the maximum roster size given the announced signings and departures so far.

I believe the roster has been set at 15. We are just waiting for the announcement.

I figured that was the case. There must be one departure that hasn't been announced yet then, as they had 15 on the roster last year and at this point the incoming players (Chirrick, Erickson, Harris, Morales, Robbins) outnumber the known departing players (Hall, Olson, Egan, and Boulanger) by one.

The updated roster has finally been posted at msubobcats.com and Lindsey Hein is not listed. So I'd assume she's that last departing player to get to the 15 roster size.

Yes Lindsey had to retire for health reasons. I understand she is staying with the team in a student assistant role. She is a super sweet young woman.

I’m so sorry to hear this about Lindsey. We only rarely got to see her potential because of the injuries. Am I right, a 20-pt game against Carroll or MSU-Billings? That may have been our best window into her ability, although I remember a Wyoming game when she brought their all-everything center to a frustrated near-standstill. But it was the 20-pt game that impressed me, because she didn’t just stand under the basket and hope to be tall. She was running the court, moving the ball — I think she would have been a pretty unique weapon in the Big Sky.

Sorry, Lindsey — I can’t imagine the mental anguish of retirement. Players live to play — and Lindsey could play. 💙💛😺

The online roster has now been fully updated other than photos for the incoming players. New jersey numbers are #8 for Hannah Robbins (yes this is a legal number now), #12 for Esmeralda Morales, #23 for Teagan Erickson, #33 for Addison Harris, and #44 for Taylee Chirrick.

Rats. She had some good moments last year and was only going to get better. I'll never forget her battles as a Forsyth Dogie against my Columbus Cougars. Best wishes to her.

She is a great kid, I'm sorry to hear this. I bumped into her at the gym a year or two ago and told her I knew her mom a little bit from coaching, and that I was excited to see her career develop. I didn't want to bug her or act like a creepy middle aged guy talking to women in the gym, so I said my thing and was ready to walk away. She was very nice and wanted to chat a little more. I'm glad she's staying involved--I think she's a great asset to the program even if she can't play anymore.

Forgive my ignorance, but why wasn't 8 a legal number?

Up until last season, the rules for NCAA basketball were that players could only wear jersey numbers using the digits 0 through 5, so #8 or #16 or #77 wouldn't have been allowed. Before last season the rule was changed to match the NBA and players can now wear any number from 0 through 99. The only rule now is that you can have a #0 or a #00 but not both.

As for the why on the rule, it has to do with the hand mechanics of the referee signaling player numbers to the score keeper. It’s definitely not impossible, but it is much more difficult to differentiate between numbers like 8 and 35 when signaling.
