I have been busy with some personal issues for the past 4-5 days. That time it has been a very rough time for Montana State basketball (both teams). I have been trying to get back up to speed with the search for the men's new coach, and while I have seen a few names mentioned, I have not seen anything official from Costello or the administration about what the plan is to select and hire a new coach. Did I miss something? Is there a selection committee established? Is Costello going to make the choice himself? has it been advertised? are/have they hired a consulting firm? I believe if they were to promote Haslam or Hill to the HC job they could do that directly, but if they wanted to hire from outside the MSU Athletic department - including Dan Russell - they would need to open up and advertise on a national basis. Has anything officially been announced aside from a "national search" mentioned in a press statement announcing Sprinkle's departure?

It's extremely quiet as far as I can tell. Kind of frustrating, really.

The infamous “quiet phase” strikes again.

Who knows, maybe silence is a good thing in this case. I well remember the days of MSU coaching searches involving on-campus interviews with public forums for all the candidates that would drag on for weeks. That's the last thing we need in this case, I'm happy to let Leon do his job and hear the results when it's done.

I'm sure the plan is the same as it's always been. Form a committee with various players, athletic staff, and university officials and reach a consensus on the best candidate.

...and then, in two or three months announce the decision...

I know that Leon told the players last Friday when he met with them, to "give me a week". So I would expect this thing to be done soon.

The old days of dragging a head men's basketball coach hiring process out are over. With the portal being what it is, school athletic departments have to be quick.

Leon posted a Thank You to Danny after the announcement last week and at the bottom of that post it said a nationwide search would begin immediately.

There is NO way Leon doesn't have a short list and I would suspect he worked those contacts while in Houston for Final Four (and coaches meetings).

Yeah, I think it's extremely safe to say that Leon was working on this before the vacancy ever opened up.

Yeah, I think it's extremely safe to say that Leon was working on this before the vacancy ever opened up.

A good AD should know that at any moment he might have to replace coaches because of situations like this or otherwise. If Leon is as good as we think he is there have probably been under the table conversations for a year+ now knowing he might have to replace Sprinkle sooner than later

Very true, after all a lot of us thought a year ago that Danny was headed to San Diego...good move I think on his part to wait another year!
