From the far outside looking, by two long term fans including a wife with spidey-sense, we have wondered about Grace, Coach Sunny, and possibly Coach Katie as being catalysts of unrest. I’ve never seen the team less able tho gel, play with more frowns than smiles, and just simply not play as a team. The guard corps is getting hit hard, with Darien, Leia, and Grace (all three possible point guards) taking the big exit door in the web application. I’ve also wondered with so much talent and still only 200 minutes in a game if something was going to give. But with Darien, Kola, and Madison graduating 120 minutes opened up. If we have any remnants it’s going to be a very young team.ilovethecats wrote: ↑Wed Apr 05, 2023 2:45 pmDoesn't sound great in that locker room. Too bad too with so much talent. But I think we're only just beginning to hear stuff in regards to our womens team.
Crap!!
This comment isn't surprising; you're the same person who at the end of preseason in 2021 wanted trade their womens's tickets for a credit against the men's tickets; you didn't think the team was any good. And, they went on to win the conference and the tournament. Bin doesn't need to call Mulkey, her team played Mulkey's and gave them a good enough game.
I'm betting not. They are all mature and committed members of this team. Have zero reason for why Beattie is leaving but betting it might have something to do with NIL money, and therefore a value of worth. I don't see Deden, Limardo or Janssen will be hunting NIL money, they are secure in their worth.
Ditto x3. Loved watching her hustle.BelgradeBobcat wrote: ↑Wed Apr 05, 2023 4:50 pmDang this one stings. Leia Buckets was a favorite of mine. Hope she doesn't go over the hill to that other school.
I think it has nothing to do with NIL! It has to do with being benched due to not performing as expected. Binford makes the tough decisions…….. she benched her and leaving is how some players respond. I think her performance was up and down all season. I trust Binford, but there’s only so much playing time available. Coaches have to make tough decisions and so do Coaches. Beattie made the decision to leave! Sometimes winning isn’t enough!CatRowdy wrote: ↑Wed Apr 05, 2023 8:06 pmI'm betting not. They are all mature and committed members of this team. And let's not forget our freshman class that came in; Olson didn't get much time due to injury but Phillip and Dykstra both got good minutes considering and showed great promise. Turnover is a constant in the coaching world and trying to be prepared for change is a constant battle. Plus we have Brooke Berry who has been with the team now for a semester.
Hard to lose players, but that's the process, and that's why the coaches are always searching for the best new recruits.
Partially agreeing with you Catlady. She probably didn’t like losing her starting position to Jackson which occurred around the time after Eastern Washington road game which coincided with Dykstra also losing her slot to Deden. I don’t think her performance was why she was “unstarted” as much as Binford changing things up with Bad Bear & Deden on the floor together & Jackson’s skill set maybe being more compatible with that two-post player lineup.Catlady wrote: ↑Thu Apr 06, 2023 10:05 amI think it has nothing to do with NIL! On another thread I had “worried a bit” about losing some of junior class. I sure hope this group stays to provide the leadership as the team “turns over” to some new youth entering the program. My worry is that this an ideal time to be marketable because they each have two years to play. So my “worrisome” thoughts are 1) Lexi stays “if” she is still in engineering and hasn’t graduated yet. Hard to change right in middle of an engineering degree and solid engineering program at MSU. She and Mara obviously will be the inside game for ladies next year. 2) Taylor has been providing fairly solid backup minutes for the last couple years. I don’t see her rising to be the key starter but continuing in a key backup role. And can really help out in case of injury and as our new recruits get up to speed. If Taylor wants to get to a starting role someplace she may move on. 3) KJ worries me a bit. She is Leia’s roommate and has that Texas and New Mexico southern connection. Probably a lot of talking with those two over last few weeks but then KJ certainly was recognized with more playing time than Leia. KJ was originally a PAC-12 commit to Arizona so she is known at next level up. She shot 39% from the arc this year and plays good disruptive defense so her skills will get a look from a lot of schools.
Partially partially agreeing with both of you. Agree it wasn’t NIL. And Jackson taking over starting role was a key change and Leia just didn’t seem to ever be able to work her way back in to get more minutes. As you said CatLady some of that is likely her inconsistency. But one of the things I remember Coach saying early in the year when she made the swap related to our poor starts at the time….it just seemed like we were lethargic on both offensive and defensive end of the court for much of Q1. And there is one thing that Maddie Jackson brings was “instantaneous energy”….there is no middle ground with that lady…full on is only mode when on the court. Just an observation from what I heard.arvcat2 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 06, 2023 10:35 amPartially agreeing with you Catlady. Beattie won one of the Big Sky’s top awards, Reserve of the Year. If she started all year she might have been Honorable Mention.Catlady wrote: ↑Thu Apr 06, 2023 10:05 amI think it has nothing to do with NIL!
