How About We Play in Romney

Post by BozCatFan » Sat Feb 08, 2014 6:29 pm

I wonder if the atmosphere would be much improved if they blew out the west wall of Shroyer and then add 3,000 360 degree around the court seats. Cat-Griz stays in Fieldhouse.

This puts students on the court and makes a much louder and more intimidating environment with everyone packed in the smaller gym.

I LOVE the Fieldhouse and what it has been but it's pretty obvious we're a LONG way from ever having the full house days back.

Thoughts?

that would turn the fieldhouse into a indoor football practice facility

That probably wouldn't hurt football recruiting.

I think remodeling and reducing the capacity of the Fieldhouse would be a cheaper and more effective option than remodeling Shroyer - the Fieldhouse is in a much better location for parking and traffic flow, and taking out the west wall of Shroyer would even make the parking situation worse in that area. Probably a moot point, as most people I know have no plans to attend Bobcat basketball games any time soon regardless of where they are played.

Screw that. Let's go back to Romney:

You know what BelgradeBobcat I didn't think about that possibility but that would be sweet. They have been wondering what to do with Rommey and this is a fantastic idea.

Add some escalators for the old folks and were good to go. I really enjoyed going up there as a kid and while in college to play basketball. It's a really cool gym.

Fieldhouse could remain as is with some upgrades for indoor football practice.

This thread has me daydreaming.

Awesome photo. So were the baseline bleachers sunken? That's what it looks like, but I can't tell for sure.

Click on the link. Then click on Higher quality/resolution (blue box), then click again. It zooms in huge. According to the scoreboard it's a game between Helena and Gallatin (back when Bozeman High was called Gallatin County High School). The score is 0-0 so it must be just before the center jump. The zoomed in photo shows incredible detail. Look how dressed up everybody is.

Looks like the floor is very small. But being a former Class C player-I've played in gyms that had smaller floors than Romney.

Whatever they do with Romney-I hope they can preserve that space somehow. There's a lot of history up there.

Ya. And given the attendance projections you could run a few miles up top while catching the game.

Love those old gyms with the balcony right over the floor. Schreiber gym in Missoula is like that.
