Oh yeah...well we've got a stranglehold on 7th-which means we might be one of only a few teams in the nation that wins our last game of the season!

If our last game happens to be against Sac State or Idaho State.

I see our season going this way:

We'll have decent success at home in the non-conference season and knock somebody off that we have no business beating...but overall we'll probably only have one or two road wins at best.

We'll get off to a promising start in the conference and maybe flirt with a top spot for a while, but after the league has gotten a good look at our new players the competition will figure out how to stop us. Points will be hard to come by and we'll tumble down the standings, but hang on for a 5th or 6th seed in the Big Sky tourney. Of course we will lose our first round game in the Big Sky tourney.

How can I make such a prediction? Because that's pretty much what we've always done for the last 15 years or so (with a very few notebable exceptions).

http://www.bozemandailychronicle.com/ap ... ts/?p=9428 I take a deeper look into the Big Sky Conference polls and how I voted for Montana State Women's Basketball & Montana State Bobcats men's hoops vs. everyone else.

As the new man on the beat, it makes sense to me. What will it take to pull out a run like in 2009?

I don't think it's any secret. In 2009 we had Divaldo Mbunga. With him were near the top of the league in rebounding. Teams couldn't simply impose their will on us inside. You need that sort of presence inside...or you need a guy to go off the whole season like Devon Bietzel did at Northern Colorado.

I'm going to call it now. We will finish no lower than 4th...

Don't let this distract you from the fact that the griz blew a 22-0 lead.

CatBlitz, my only response is to look at your new signature and say "Whatever you say Walter White, I agree with. Please don't hurt me." :-^ I think they do have a shot at a home BSC tournament game (I refuse to call it play-in), but the guardplay has to be superb to excellent, great at least, for it to happen. The frontcourt worries me only if there's no true center option or rotation set and ready. Tre and Shawn, while having improved from the end of last season, are still relatively untested sophomores. Call me a pessimist, and I am new to the beat, but that's the first thoughts I have as I really sit down to analyze this team prior to Friday. I'll have more in the coming days.

I would tend to agree with you but in the past when I think we have an undersized and flat-out "weak" team in comparison to the rest of the BSC, Coach Huse has gotten them to play very very well. I think this will be a very interesting year.

For the first half of a season, anyway. Then the lack of a center rears it's ugly head down the stretch and we limp into the conference tournament and lose in the first round.

Here's hoping we break that mold this year, but we are going to be a smaller, athletic team this year and I agree with Gidal the guard play is going to make or break this team. That and mid to long range shooting.

It's going to be a fascinating year in the BSC. Obviously Weber and Montana have the chance to distance themselves from the field, but beyond that, I think you can throw a blanket over the next 7 teams and any of them could finish 3rd. Getting a few road break-throughs will be huge towards establishing a team as a front-runner.

We're all here 'cause we ain't all there.
