Good for Sprinkle and ultimately good for MSU.

Starting to get a very ominous feeling about this. The Utah State board is now going through the MSU roster to pick out which players they want Sprinkle to "bring with him".
@MSU01 can you post a link?
I took his comments as sarcasm. To do so would be a NCAA violation. Another team discussing the transfer of a particular player (tampering) before they enter the transfer portal would get them in big trouble.

.......unless you are Kentucky
A message board can discuss whatever they like regarding transfers.
Absolutely, there are a bunch of Kentucky fans who have been tweeting about how they should go out and "get" Raquon Battle, and there is nothing wrong, technically with that. That said, no coaches or athletic staff can contact a player on another team that is not in the portal.
Sure, but they can talk to people who can talk to players. It happens, will continue to happen, and don’t think schools like MSU don’t do it either.

Two separate Twitter accounts, both seemingly not in any sort of sports media, say they are hearing Sprinkle is the guy.

Nothing official or even what I'd consider a true source but where there's smoke there's fire.
I'd be shocked if he wasn't announced as the next guy at USU within 24 hours. Think it's a done deal.

Big question will be if some players follow him down there. :(
Which players? Unless someone pulls a rabbit out of their hat, RQB, RF3, and DB have used their transfers. If Sprinkle takes the job, wouldn’t he want his core players to go with him? TP, GO, and Lecholat are the only ones that are left with transfers intact. Not counting current outstanding offers.

There’s smoke for sure, but not in the manner most here think. IMHO
Coaching change affects the ability of a kid to transfer. If someone knows better, isn't there the stipulation now the kid can't transfer to the coaches new school without penalty? Junior College and international student-athletes have different rules.

Anyway, this would be what Sprinkle is getting into:

Coaching changes do not grant a free transfer. The 2 current caveats outside of the 1 free transfer and the grad transfer are for physical safety and for mental health. Tom Izzo was talking about this last week and said that the current mental health loophole is hard to challenge if a player claims that is the reason they need to switch schools.

One of the Twitter comments states the NCAA is going to lose if they go to court for blocking a kid due to coaching changes. We'll continue to see multiple transfers, I firmly believe.

https://thecomeback.com/ncaa/ncaa-sends ... rules.html

*Edit I don't believe those guidance memos from the NCAA are worth the price of the paper they're printed on. As one responding athletic department stated, try to enforce it and lose in court again.

In this case (mental health transfer) it could be made pretty easy for the guys in question because Logan is closer to home for many of the guys mentioned in this thread. The new transfer rules were much needed but the NCAA continues to screw things up when when you aren’t allowed transfer after the coach that recruits you leaves. In this era, 9 times out of 10, players are going to a school based on the coaching rather than the school itself.

For our sake let’s just hope this is all smoke and nothing else…

Hard to tell if the Twitter people actually know anything or if they're just making claims that seem likely so they can boast "I was right!" if it actually happens.

If anyone from USU is reading this, don't forget that this year's Big Sky Coach of the Year works at EWU!

I know it’s rumor mill season, and I’m only adding to it…but I was told by a “source” who I trust… that Sprinkle will be in Logan this week for a (campus) interview.

I say this with the hope he stays but would understand why he would leave.
I don’t have any inside information or contacts but I think Danny Sprinkle is currently in Houston for the Final Four coaches meetings.

MT State or UM aren't even in the top 6 or 7 to get an invite
I think UM and MSU are higher than you think. The question is would the Cats and Griz accept an MWC invite. I doubt they would.

Who are the 6 or 7 teams above UM and MSU that would realistically come to the MWC? The MWC would've taken some Texas schools, but the ones they would've taken are now in the AAC, so they aren't coming. The MWC won't go east of Texas. The current and outgoing USU prez is an Montana State grad. I would say it is betwen NMSU and UTEP or UM and MSU. There really isn't anyone else for the MWC.

The Cats and griz would love an invite. My prediction is it’ll happen within the next five years.

VCU “Commodores?” Did they change the name from the Rams?

Hope Danny gets the job. It’s a great job and a very stable booster base for hoops.

Hey all, aggie fan here who has been watching your board from afar the past few days. We have no idea if Sprinkle is moving to Logan or not, but he seems to be the top choice on our board. The “sources” on Twitter are not highly reliable, but I’m sure Sprinkle has been considered ant least from a USU standpoint. Although we recognize that he is an MSU alum, so he likely will not be easily taken.

As far as the Montana schools moving to the MW, they are high on the list. They are both very respectable universities with strong athletics. The only other pair that may be invited first is NMSU and UTEP, but who knows. Honestly the entire MW might get sucked into the PAC if 7 more of their schools leave the conference. The Big Sky has been extremely stable over the past few years with the WAC/MW nonsense.

If Danny leaves, we will continue to thrive. We have the academic and athletic leadership that will keep us moving upward. Whatever is best for Danny is also best for us.

While registering my vehicles the assessor stated "I have had both Cat and Griz students and alums work for me and the Griz end up working under the direction of the Cats."

Definitely best for Danny and his career, I don't know about best for us. Hopefully we can find a good coach to keep the trajectory, I think its a lot harder than a few years ago.

I considered Sprinkle a gamble when hired. Seemed a bit too convenient to bring in a hometown hero, and heroes are sometimes hard to fire. Look no further than Tim's brother over the hill.

But of course I was wrong. Big time. Sprinkle set the machine in motion and now the expectation is to win the the conference every single year, and then look for our shot at the Cinderella game at the big dance. Why not us?

Good luck to Sprinkle if/when he leaves. He is already a legend. It goes without saying that really I hope he stays for a long time, but I doubt it. Let's hope our keys guys stick around if this is the one and we don't take a step back.

But make no mistake about it. When push comes to shove, leading this MBB program will be a highly sought after position. Leon will have many, many great options.
