Finberg is my choice!!HelenaCat wrote:Another really good player when I was at school was Craig Finberg. He played shooting gaurd with Mick Durham at point gaurd. Craig could shoot the lights out from a LONG distance. If he had played when the 3 point shot was around, he would be much higher on MSU's all time lists. He also played when MSU did not have a lot of other scoring threats, so other teams really keyed on him.

As far a big guys go I'd say Hashley, and Damir Latovic. Latovic for my money was one of the best ever even thought he only played one year. Erickson getting the MVP over him that year was a crime.
My all time fan favorite was Steve Snodgrass

Chanay was years ahead of his time; yeah, Finberg could shoot but I'd rather watch Tom Storm or Willie Weeks, even though I think Damako could have stuck around in the shoot-arounds. Most athletic and bizarre shots would still go to Chanay with Kral Ferch or Kermit Young close behind. Warren Daniels and Hampton were my favorite guards, though Brickhouse would amaze me at times. Think Jack Gillespie was the best big man I've seen in Bozo. My favorite as to the way he conducted himself would go to Jason Erickson, though I enjoy watching Marvin Moss. If Mick sits his point guard select for this year down and makes him watch tapes of Hampton or Erickson, Moss will be on this list next year. We've had some pretty good ball players.

my memory fails me again but can anyone recall a cat-griz game during the domako era (i think)...i was sitting on the "west" side there were a few seconds maybe three on the clock...the cats have the ball at the south end...in pass the ball...one pass to someone just north of the center line who drills the net with no time remaining...an interesting side note is there was complete disarray (sp) on behalf of the griz bench and consequently the man coverage was poor...the cats won with either no time on the clock or no time at all...had to be in the 80's cause i was in grad school....help me out here...oops i'm drooling

I remember Clamon well. Off the court he was one of the funniest person I ever met. With a good set of knees on him he could have been a Big Sky MVP, by his Junior or senior year. I still remember him on the floor when he first blew out his first knee. It still hurts thnking about it!Ponycat wrote:Does anyone remember Clamon Jacobs. He would have been an all time great if his knees would have held up.
Here is a question. Who were better backcourt mates Willis and Hampton or Willis and Conway?
Best Clamon Jacob quote: "ho da do"
Any back court with Hampton is the best back court. When I think of great point guard at MSU Hampton is the first on the list. It is a cliche but he litterally DID make all of the other players better when they played with him. partially with his skills and partially with his leadership. He made the other layer feel like they could win against anyone. I have talked to players who played with Tony and to a man they always say Tony gave the team the swagger and confidence to go onto the court and win the game. OH yea and he was one hell of a basketball player, too!

You people are crazy if you don't have these bobcats listed as the best
Tom Damako-6'9" shooter, could fill it up
Kral Ferch-6'5" big time athlete and slasher
Danny Sprinkle-best shooter ever at MSU, maybe in Big Sky.
Craig Finberg-Great shooter, too bad no 3 pt. line
Quadre Lollis-absolute machild
Doug Hashley-Beast and great Rebounder
Jason Erickson-Leader and always solid
Nico Harrison-slasher and dunked with best of them
Scott Hatler-solid floor general who was very smart team player
Big nate Holmstadt-dominated inside. COuld go for 30 every night.
These are the top 10 by far!!

Finberg was by far the best player IMO. We were so bad back then that teams would play a box and one to minimize his scoring. Some nights he would back it out to about 35 feet and make shots all night (with a hand in his face). He could also move and play D. I can't believe the Trailblazers cut him. I believe he scored 24 in the last pre-season game before cut down. We used to call it the Mick & Finny show. We lost most of the time but we went to the games to see those two play.

There have been A LOT of quality basketball players and narrowing them to a top 10 would be difficult. However, one game really sticks out in my mind was when the Cats played at BYU and when Tommy Damako fouled out with a couple of minutes left in the game...THEIR crowd gave him a standing ovation! I don't know if he would rank in the top 10, but that was a very impressive performance in a game the Cats nearly pulled off!
My all time favorite is none other than GREG WALTERS! He wouldn't make the all time list, but what a great guy and always gave 100%.

That game was in 1985 in Bozeman. I remember because I was on my honeymoon and watching the game in my hotel room...always have my priorities straight ya know!couloir41 wrote:my memory fails me again but can anyone recall a cat-griz game during the domako era (i think)...i was sitting on the "west" side there were a few seconds maybe three on the clock...the cats have the ball at the south end...in pass the ball...one pass to someone just north of the center line who drills the net with no time remaining...an interesting side note is there was complete disarray (sp) on behalf of the griz bench and consequently the man coverage was poor...the cats won with either no time on the clock or no time at all...had to be in the 80's cause i was in grad school....help me out here...oops i'm drooling

No, but I do remember Bud Weiser, Jack Daniels, & MadDog 2020...but mostly I remember not remembering much!Bleedinbluengold wrote:Anyone remember Harry Heineken? His arms were about 10 feet long and he had some thunderous dunks off of steals in the backcourt. He was a bigtime crowd favorite.
