that sums it up. i'm not even that upset because we just are not that good of a team this year. i've been saying it all year. as always, we competed early in the season, we won some HOME games to start conference play, and people think we are a good team. but the issues we have just don't go away, number one being our size! we are a very small team and we basically have no chance against teams with a good front court.technoCat wrote:Every year its the same thing. I cant watch because I know we don't have the tools to win but they pull me in by playing above their level for the first part of the season. Then they crash like something completely expected... I want to get into the team and i just can't.
in the end, i was actually happy with how the team competed for the first 25-30 minutes last night 'cause UM is clearly much, much better.

So, does anyone honestly think we'll end up better than 7-9 in conference? We should beat ISU and Sac at home, but I wouldn't be surprised if those are our only two BSC wins the rest of the way. At the beginning of the season, I may not even have been that disappointed if you had told me that would be our final record, but after starting out 5-1, it would be very disappointing.ilovethecats wrote:that sums it up. i'm not even that upset because we just are not that good of a team this year. i've been saying it all year. as always, we competed early in the season, we won some HOME games to start conference play, and people think we are a good team. but the issues we have just don't go away, number one being our size! we are a very small team and we basically have no chance against teams with a good front court.technoCat wrote:Every year its the same thing. UM is Much bigger than the rest of the conference. We knew going into the season we would have trouble inside. The BS is not loaded with size...except for UM. If they stay healthy they should win the conference.
That being said, we have good match ups with the rest of the conference. With the growth from Reid, Budinch, Johnson and the rest we should get better as the season goes on. Edge...Cats.
No superstar to stop on our team. Edge... Cats
The ISU game is worrisome because it was against a team we should have clobbered.
We should win the remainder of our home games (even UNC) and would hope to pick up one more in a road split. 4 more wins and a BSC tourney.
Go CATS!

I agree that we'll make the tourney....even my prediction of 7-9 would get us into the tournery, especially since PSU is ineligble. But with 6 out of the 8 eliglbe teams making the post-season, that is no huge accomplishment. You say we should "get better as the season goes on" but our history has been just the opposite of that, and we seem to be headed down that same path again this year. I know that we went through a similar mid-season slump last year, and then rebounded to win our final 3 BSC games. But of course we then ended up losing to PSU at home in the first round of the tourney....yet again.alasax wrote:UM is Much bigger than the rest of the conference. Quoted for truth. Like Coach Huse said in the post game, UM's front court size is hard to match up against, and this is true for EVERY team in the BSC. They should thank their lucky stars that a kid like Selvig decided to stay in state. It's not often a BSC team has an offensively talented, shot blocking 6'11 center and a 7' power forward who handles, passes, shoots, and defends like a point guard... With the talent they have in the frontcourt and backcourt, if they don't win the regular season and conference championships, it will be a complete and utter failure by their program. I still don't understand how UNC beat them...ilovethecats wrote:that sums it up. i'm not even that upset because we just are not that good of a team this year. i've been saying it all year. as always, we competed early in the season, we won some HOME games to start conference play, and people think we are a good team. but the issues we have just don't go away, number one being our size! we are a very small team and we basically have no chance against teams with a good front court.

I believe I have said this every year, but Eric Rush is to unselfish. He is an amazing talent that just does not have the killer instinct. I would have liked to see him take the game over at the end. Maybe the outcome is the same, but when the team is not scoring we need him to step up. When he was isolated and went one on one he got a good look every time.
