Marah Dykstra and Natalie Picton

Post by aucat » Wed Jan 28, 2026 5:55 pm

Two of my favorite players from last year's team. I don't think I ever really heard why either one of them decided to transfer but looking at it from their point of view I can see some positives. Let's take Natalie first. If you play for the Bobcats we know that Coach Bin has a flat out run and gun philosophy going both ways. Therefore she does lots of substituting. I'm guessing that most of our players average no more than around 23-24 minutes of playing time. Some players just don't want to sit on the bench half of the game. Maybe that was Natalie. At Sac State she is averaging about 35 minutes per game. Granted, her team is 10-10 but they DID beat EWU by more points than we did the other night.

As for Marah, she is averaging about 15 minutes per game and only 3 points per game. However, she is experiencing what it is like to play on a big time powerhouse Big Ten team as I believe that Michigan State is ranked number 13 in the nation this week with an 18-2 record. I hope that they are both happy.

I will give a cheer for Natalie when she is introduced on the courtThursday night. It will be fun to see her play in the Brick again.

Would be interested to see Pictons minutes vs possessions. Cats possessions are short so you get more per game. Somintes might be less but chance to make a play higher.

I am not the only one when I say this- I hope we shut her down. Loved her when she was here- appreciate her time as a Cat. Now let’s take it to her.

Marah is only averaging 2.5 minutes per game over Michigan State's last four games and didn't play at all in their most recent game. I'm sure it's still a great experience to get to play in the Big 10 and see all those great arenas and atmospheres, plus she'll have a great shot at a deep NCAA Tournament run.

Dykstra was offered a check with six digits and a comma in it. One of the main draws for leaving.

I watched a sac game where the announcer said something where they basically said that Benthe stayed at Sac to play with Natalie and that Natalie came to play with Benthe. So sounds like they arranged to play together and it was the driving force for Nat to go to Sac. Who knows. Anyone know how many player of the weeks she had her freshman and sophmore seasons? I assume there were some. I think its been one(this week) so far this year for her.

Sac plays their guards a ton. Last year Benthe played 40 minutes a game a lot. But I don't know about playing time being a factor for Nat.

I hope it was a guarantee. That's crazy money for someone averaging less than 4 minutes per game.

$1,000.00 Doesn't seem like the kind of money you leave for. But young people today.

1 1
5 0s
That’s 6 digits (0-9)
1 comma

Matches what Colter said he said.

Proof that basketball is a team game, and a good basketball team is much more than the sum of its parts. The ‘Cats definitely benefited from Natalie being on hand to step in when Dylan was injured. But Picton benefited a great deal by being a member of the Bobcat team.

The last thing Sacramento St. needed was a miniature guard. Our taller skilled players overwhelmed them.

I watched Natalie alot tonight. I don’t often watch one player that much. I guess truthfully I felt like the ex partner with respect to emotions. You want her to get beat badly like Sac St was, because she left; but at the same time I found myself watching her because I hoped, subconsciously, I would see her missing being here.

But in all truth, not that she would ever read this, but Natalie you were my Caitlin Clark of Bobcat women's basketball. I paid a attention to our team before, but I follow way more in depth since you've been here. Watch ever game I can. I thank you for that. And for the time you spent here playing for us. And selfishly I hope, when you look back at your college career, I hope you always consider yourself a Bobcat. I miss watching you ball out for us.

Nice comments for Natalie; esp. by lutecat, as usual. She is part of our fam. We value her contributions to the Bobcats. I would have clapped when she was announce if I had been there. We miss her fun-loving spirit and great smile. We didn't see much of that last night from her; 2 points on 1of 10 shooting... 0/6 on 3s and she had good looks so a couple of those could have gone in pretty easily as not , 4 TOs, but did have 3 steals (wish she wouldn't do that to us).

Talk about pressure! Natalie is probably relieved that is over...

One of the really fun things about the Big Sky Tournament in Boise is that the players are in the arena and around the venue and are pretty easy to approach and chat with. I've had brief chats with several players from our team and other teams and told them how awesome I thought they were. They all seem to appreciate it. If I get a chance, I'll tell Natalie that we miss her and wish her well.

I just watched Sac St lose to a previously zero Big Sky win Weber.

Jaiteh is a senior. Versteeg is a senior. They are 500 in the Big Sky after tonight. If you're Natalie do you stick around your senior year? Or do you transfer again?

I'd guess she stays barring a coaching change, if the best offer she was able to get leaving MSU as a junior was Sac State how much better would she possibly do leaving again with one less year of eligibility left?

I agree. In my mind she's as good as Versteeg, esp. after last night.

I see where Marah didn't play a second in the overtime game against rival Michigan yesterday.

2025 - When 13-2 means 2nd place twice in the State of Montana.

Agreed. The only variable would be if a team desperately needed her talent and was willing to pay for it. Not terribly likely but still I guess a possibility.
