Coach Logie
Took the charter to the South Dakota State game and had an unexpected bonus to what was a great trip to a great (albeit heartbreaking) game. After we landed we were taken to Buffalo Wild Wings for lunch. Much to my delight I wound up at a table with Coach Logie and his wife Julia. What a lovely couple! Spent an hour-and-a-half talking Bozeman, hoops, families, NIL, NCAA stories, etc. Coach is smart, sincere, humorous and plans to build the program the right way. He told me if he had been offered a 20 year contract he would have signed it. The men's team is in good hands.

Re: Coach Logie
Do you have any insight as to what Coach Logie's views on the "right way" to build a program are? To me it has to be super tough in the transfer portal era to balance filling immediate needs from the portal, while still recruiting high school players who can be developed over 4 or 5 years in the program if they don't transfer themselves.
I haven't met Coach Logie but have been very impressed with what he has had to say in all the press conferences and interviews I've seen. He reminds me a lot of Coach Sprinkle and it's hard to question his basketball knowledge or coaching ability given the gaudy record he has accumulated as a head coach in the lower divisions. Recruiting will always be key, but it looks like he's at least competing well in that area so far.

Sounds like a great experience. Thank you for sharing your impressions with us. Success at this level is all about recruiting. I have been very impressed with the players I know Coach Logie has targeted. I hope he and his staff land their fair share!84CatGrad wrote: ↑Sun Sep 10, 2023 9:16 pmTook the charter to the South Dakota State game and had an unexpected bonus to what was a great trip to a great (albeit heartbreaking) game. Re: Coach Logie
Thank you very much for sharing that. I was reading today about one of the Class of 2024 women’s basketball players and how she picked MSU over full-ride offers from MWC schools like Colorado State, and even Cal. It was because of the very attributes that you listed for Coach Logie. She went on to express how much she already respected Coach Bin and that was the deciding factor — she wanted to play for someone just like that. (She may be one of the best WBB recruits ever). Players may come and want to stay because of what they find here. I suspect Coach Logie will attract players who aren’t looking to move at the drop of an Air Jordan. And if they do, he’ll be able to keep his pipeline full. It sounds like AD Costello and President Cruzado have struck gold again.

Re: Coach Logie
As most people know, Coach played for his grandfather at Mercer Island in Seattle (UM coach Travis DeCuire also played for Logie's grandfather). Through his relationship with his grandfather, he saw how valuable relationship building was to success on the court but more importantly off the court as a quality of life factor. He told me that's why he went into coaching. He understands talent is needed, but kids will play hard for you if they know you care for them and will do anything to help them. As far as recruiting, I was pleasantly surprised that he told me it still primarily boils down to relationships with HS and AAU coaches, not just sitting at a computer googling kids, or subscribing to some scouting web page. So it's still heavily dependent on old fashioned communication with those coaches.MSU01 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 10, 2023 9:29 pmDo you have any insight as to what Coach Logie's views on the "right way" to build a program are? Coach is excited about his group of players and said they all like each other and have been making great strides so far. He told me that Brian Goracke, the transfer from Point Loma, is Big Sky ready and a pure scorer. He expects big things from him.
The Logie's have a 5th grade boy and an 8th grade girl. The day of the SDSU game was their son's first ever tackle football game. They chose to go to the SDSU game (!) but were monitoring their phone and getting game updates. Their daughter loves volleyball and found a team to play on immediately which has greatly helped her transition from San Diego.
Julia was very kind when I showed off my grandkid pics and was genuinely interested in hearing about them.
Whether or not coach lights up the Big Sky, he and his wife are wonderful and I am proud they have joined the Bobcat family.

Re: Coach Logie
Starts at the Top....Waded has done more for MSU athletics than anyone! Add to the mix that Leon has been a great AD and now I think we've got a good BB coach in Logie. I was bummed Sprinkle left....but wish him well. I've been impressed with the guys Logie is bringing in....I doubt they'll put up 25 wins like last year, but I think the Cats will be very competitive. Give Logie a couple of years to mold the program and I think we'll be back on top of the Big Sky.

Re: Coach Logie
It is always tough for a coach in his first year, especially in the era of the Transfer Portal. MSU/Logie had replace 60% of its roster, with only a few months from a standing start. I am looking forward to seeing how Logie fields and coaches the 20-23 team. His style of coaching is a big mystery - to me - and how it fits into the Big Sky conference. This season will most likely only be a glimpse at what is to come as he builds a team that fits him. It may take a few years - or quicker if the transfer portal is in his plans. On that note, I am also very curious to see the type and caliber of players he can bring in through his recruiting efforts. The only thing I can tell right now is he seems to be putting a lot of recruiting efforts into landing a big-time scoring guard. A lot of questions (in a good way) in my mind coming into the 23-24 season. Since I have been following MSU basketball (1980) I don't think I have ever felt this blind going into a season as I do with the upcoming season.Catfanatic84 wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2023 11:25 amStarts at the Top....Waded has done more for MSU athletics than anyone! Little off topic here - but the Cats are going to scrimmage Washington State sometime in mid October. They will also play or scrimmage Western Washington University. Similar to last October when we played a controlled secret scrimmage in Vegas against CSU Fullerton.

Re: Coach Logie
The WSU one is likely a secret scrimmage, which means no fans. Last year when they played CSU-Fullerton in Vegas, they played an officiated game, with stats, etc. and the Cats fell to the Titans like 65-58 or some similar score.
Not sure if the WWU event is an exhibition, scrimmage, or actual game. Sorry for the fuzzy details. I'll update this when I hear more intel.

Re: Coach Logie
"Secret Scrimmages" are not allowed to have public not media present. Basically, the coaches, players, trainers, and some athletic staff are the only ones allowed. I also believe that the results and box scores are not allowed to be released. That said it is surprising how much info can (depending on the program) make it online!lv2hoop wrote: ↑Sat Sep 23, 2023 1:45 pmThe WSU one is likely a secret scrimmage, which means no fans.
