You don't often see an 8th grader hitting game-winning 3's and scoring 18 points in AA girls basketball - how good is she?

Off topic a bit but why do eighth graders need to play at AA schools? I thought that only happened at schools where not enough students go out for the team.
MSU - 16 team National Champions (most recent 2024); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

MHSA approved it for all levels. It’s up to each individual district now. Lewistown voted not to but I’m sure it’s coming.

Butte’s girls numbers are way down. Not sure if they cut any girls program wide this year.

Graham is a real player. Great shooter, great ball handler and super smart basketball mind. Dad is head coach for women’s basketball at Tech and both mom and dad played at Western.JDoub wrote: ↑Mon Mar 20, 2023 10:03 amYou don't often see an 8th grader hitting game-winning 3's and scoring 18 points in AA girls basketball - how good is she?

I think recruiting is premature though. She is probably less than 100 pounds right now and still physically looks like an eighth grader. However, I am sure Binford has already heard about her. If I was Binford, I would be looking to rub elbows with Coach Graham at any coaching clinics.

more off topic - I digress - a guy we played pick-up ball with at MSU back in the day (late 80's) said he played HS ball at Reed Point, who only had 6 high school boys, who all played on the team, a 7th grader occasionally played, and the custom was if a player(s) fouled out and there were only 4 left, the opposing team would only play with 4, and so on.
He said one game the final 2 minutes came down to a 1-on-1 game.

From what I understand, Butte (girls) will only let 8th graders play if they are capable of playing at the JV/Varsity level. If they are someone who wouldn’t be. They will get cut.

I think 8th graders playing will hurt bigger programs, earlier cuts, less development, makes sense in small schools due to numbers, not so much in A and AA. keep adding sports yet complain about numbers. Also why do they get to play individual sports like golf, wrestling, and track?
