Swita, Redshirts and Walkons
I noticed during the Cat-Griz that Michelle Swita, the 7'0 tall Frenchman, was not in uniform or even on the bench. Does anybody know his status? Also, who exactly are the the redshirts/walkons who sit at the end of the bench in street clothes? Does anybody know what the coaching staff thinks of them? Mslacat, perhaps?

Re: Swita, Redshirts and Walkons
Looking at the online roster on msubobcats.com, I'd venture to say the redshirts are Colt Idol (Whitefish), Steven Davis (Billings), and Jeff Budinich (SeaTac).
Not sure what the deal with Swita is...

From what I understand Budinich has the ability to be a big time player for the cats in years to come, he reminds me of a Brandon Johnson. He can play some post and is a threat from deep.

Budnich the coaches are very high on Jeff but it sounds like a case of Mono in October and November pretty much sealed his fate as a redshirt this year. Like mentioned before he could be compared very favorably to Brandon Johnson. Budnich is a little taller, most likely a better rebounder than Johnson was at the same point. Budnich though is most likely a little better three point shooter. He is a hard worker, and will most likely see more time at center next year and possibly more at power forward as he gets older. Needs to work on his lateral movement to be able to defend quicker power forward. Is most likely higher in the depth chart right now than some of out active big men if he was active.
Swita I don't know about him, he is only a sophomore, but has been having difficulty learning/effecting Huse's defensive system. Huse is higher than I am. My question is will he be back next year. If not look for a JC recruit to take his place. Huse though does not cut players very often, he takes a great deal of pride in that his players graduate (unless they screw up).
Steven Davis is a 6-7 walk-on from Billings Skyview who is redshirting. Davis was one of the less ballyhooed walk-ons that the Cat's have had in the last few years but from what I have heard on of the coaches favorites. I hear the coaches are really surprised by his play this fall and in practice. He is not as skilled as some big men but a hard working kid who has picked up Huse's schemes and has really made a niche for himself. A long road a head of him but if he sticks with it could be a game contributer down the road.
Colt Idol is a 6-3-ish walk-on guard who blew out his knee in the early fall so it is hard to put a measuring stick on him as he has not been able to get on the court as he rehabs. A good shooter/scorer pretty intelligent player we will need to wait to see how he comes back and develops.

He's an extra player they have playing with the team during practices. I do not believe he is on scholarship or will see time with the team in an actual game.duelalumnicat wrote:And the fourth player in street clothes...looks like a guard perhaps?

That's too bad. But, it also opens up another scholarship, so maybe Coach Huse can find another big man this spring/summer.
