MBB: Men at Fresno State tonight.

Post by mslacat » Wed Nov 29, 2006 10:52 am

******** We interupt your normal football discusion of a mens basketball update *********

The mens team will be playing tonight at Fresno State @ 8:00 our time. The men have been playing a game about every 3 days, and it will continue for until Dec 9th (Fresno State in Bozeman game) then the guys will have a week off of games, for finals (I assume), and then the games will get a little managable at a game at about 4 to 6 days appart until conference. I think this team could benifit from a little more time in practice and allow Huse to take what he has learned and do the thing that coaches do.

By the way I do believe Fresno's new head coach did apply for the Montana State Job the Huse got. He coached Fresno JC to two California championships, before being hired by Fresno State. Larry K. former Griz coach was also a leading canidate for this job, but refused an interview request.

******* We now return to our normally scheduled football discussions *******

This will be the Fresno State coach's second season there. Coach Cleveland, if he applied for the job here, didn't get into the top 3.

Steve Cleveland was the head coach at BYU before coming to Fresno last season. I highly doubt that he applied for the MSU job.

ARRRG!!!!
You are right. The Fresno JC coach went to Pepperdine last year. He did apply the year before for the Fresno job, but did not make the cut. Senility is sinking in.... more later it has been a tough week!

Cats down 6-4 early. Taylor had a nice behind the back pass to Morris for 2 early on.

Yes it's sounding ugly so far...like a team who has played every four days for two weeks!

Final Score 80-41. Ouch
A shout out to Ted Morris though...he was a rebounding fool!

The Bobcats just had a tough game and Fresno is a really good team. I imagine that we'll see this in a week and a half here in Bozeman. The team seems really tired, and it sure as hell doesn't get any easier for a bit, where they come back and play Wyoming Saturday, then hit the road for Boise State next Wednesday. Then they get a break for finals. Some break, eh? Ted Morris had a good rebounding game. Anyway, I'm anxious to see what they'll do against Wyoming on Saturday.

GO CATS!
It's always a good day to be a Bobcat fan! :) =D^ \:D/

I'm not too suprised by this result. Fresno returned everybody from a decent squad last year and also added Dominic McGuire who started two years ago at Cal before transferring. The Bulldogs have always put out talented teams and it seems as though Coach Cleveland is starting to bring some discipline to the program as well. He is a very good coach and did an excellent job at BYU before deciding to come back to Fresno where he grew up. This will be the best team we play this year and one of the most talented teams to come through Bozeman in awhile. I highly recommend going to this game.

On a side note, Idaho State had to come from 10 points down at the half to beat Carroll by one at home 75-74.

Man, if the game highlight is rebounds...By the way, where are all the Class B and C kids on our roster? Just Durr this year? He came from a state championship team, right?

When are we going to get back to who we are? We're the ones with a chip on the shoulder because we're not paranoid, we know they're against us and we'll prove their sorry ass wrong!

This team is going to take it's lumps, but I think we'll see the effort bear fruit...in about 2 seasons.

Huse did go sign two top in-state prospects (kids from Butte and Great Falls). They're not B and C guys, but they are in-state and he signed them early without playing any games. At least those two won't be coming into the Fieldhouse to dunk on our heads like McGillis did.

Come on. We can't be too hard on these guys. They are pretty much a brand new team put together in the offseason by a new coach. Our players are going to need more time playing together to get the consistency down. We are extremely young and have a lot to learn. We won't be BSC contenders for another 2 years.

This is a very good point. I think Huse knows where and who to recruit and I think we will be seeing more in-state players in his tenure here. Howard and Edwards will be excellent players here at MSU.

Salient points taken; however, I know of one LARGE Class C shooting guard who's been offered by Utah and a sophmore kid from the same team who's already been offered by Wake Forest. I will be patient to a point...

Do they have names? Why haven't they been mentioned anywhere else if schools like these have offered?

They have, but one of the Hi-line posters stated the same thing I heard as a kid about Wayne Estes when I lived in Bozeman before moving to Belgrade: "Lance Brockie can't even run the floor, how can he play D1 basketball?" and "A.J. Long Soldier will never get out of high school!"

We'll see.

Well if those two players are as good as advertised, they better get a look from us in the next few years.

Only been five kids in the history of the Montana Class C State Tournament to score over forty points in a game--A.J. was one last year.
