CONGRATS FOLKS
We wanted the home game but all the players are excited about coming to Montana. Some of our fans are trying to plan? a sudden holiday trip out to your beautiful state also. If youre ever in the area, check out Greenville, we are at the foot of the Blue Ridge mountains but only a 4 hour drive to the Carolina coast. (great beaches) Its a great week to be a Cat or a Paladin isnt it?

Welcome to the board and I hope some of you can make it up here on such short notice. If anybody makes it up to Bozeman, be sure to stop in at the tailgates for some food, drink and conversation!

Since I traveled with the Bobcats to both Louisiana and Iowa a few years back, I'll share some "to-do" things for the awesome town of Bozeman, Montana. I am sure you are partial to where you live, but its actually the best place in the world...
Flights into Bozeman:
Unless your alumni association is putting a package together, its probably pretty pricey, especially considering the holiday weekend. Butte, Montana is 80 miles along Interstate 90 away (BTM), Helena (Hell-en-a) is 90 miles away (HLN), and might provide alternatives at a more reasonable price.
Stuff to do:
Day:
If you rent a car, check out Big Sky ski resort. If you arrive earlier in the weekend, or stay later, you might get some early season skiing in. Its a spectacular 50 minute drive away, and even if you don't ski off the top of the mountain, take the tram to the top and check out the Montana view from 11,116 feet: www.bigskyresort.com
Hike the M, on the Briger mountains north of town. There is a relativley easy trail, and it gives awesome views.
Check out the galleries and shops on Main Street. Home to about 12 coffee shops, Bozeman's Main Street has a lot to check out on it.
Head out to Three Forks, where the Gallatin, Jefferson, and Madison Rivers come together to form the Missouri River. Its very pretty.
The Museum of the Rockies, home to Jack Horner (of Jurassic Park fame), is a good history, geology, and dino exhibit. Its pretty cheap too!
Evening:
I am a sucker for Bozeman's downtown Main Street area at night too. Best Pizza: Mackenzie River Pizza Co. Its reasonable ($8 a plate or so) and awesome atmosphere. There are a number of bars, including a fun wine bar, in about a 5 block strip, and it should be a good time with so many people in town for the game.
Other local food places are the Bay Bar and Grille, Santa Fe Reds. More upscale, but worth it, are Looies Down Under, The Bistro, along with a few more I could never afford as an undergrad...
If you want to catch a movie, there is a theatre (the Ellen) on Main Street, a set of cinemas at the Mall (E. Main), and on North 11th Ave.
Game Day:
Bobcat tailgating is an event not to be missed. Arrive early and consider staying late.
Enjoy your time in Bozeman!!!

FuFan...can't wait for this weekend. Welcome to the board and thank you for the invite to your great state. We would love to see as many fans in Purple and White as we can and since your colors aren't maroon and silver (or is it Maroon and Yellow...sorry a little GrizSmack) you are more than welcome here. If you have anyone around causing your fans a ruckus we'll take care of them because there are a few bozo's in bozeman, but other than that just looking forward to some new company.

Aditionally, the Furman folks may look into flying into Billings. A bit farther than Butte or Helena (120+/- miles, 2 hours), but with many, many more daily flights. A quick glance at Orbitz told me that 1-stop flights from Charlotte to Billings on United (on Friday) could be had for a little under $500. 2-stop flights from Charlotte to Butte on Delta for a little under $900. Charlotte to Bozeman on Northwest for about $750.
Looks like Billings may be the way to go...

Big Sky is pretty melted, and any early season skiing will be crappy. There is no way that the tram will be running before mid-December.bobcatgrad2005 wrote:Day:

Another idea is to go to Yellowstone through Gardiner. The Northern Range and Lamar Valley is open year 'round. The bears are gone or asleep, but there still is pretty good animal viewing this time of the year. Entrance fee will still be $25, but you will see Mammoth Hot Springs, elk, pronghorn, mule deer, whitetails in the Paradise Valley, coyotes, and possibly wolves or moose.

That's awesome you are making the trip! Here is a link to our Chamber of Commerce Accomodations page so you should be able to find something there. http://www.bozemanchamber.com/accomodations/Purplehaze wrote:We are insane, but we are driving to Bozeman. Leaving Wed. afternoon.
What are the closest hotels to the stadium?
Will parking at the stadium be a problem?
Looking forward to seeing you guys!!!
You shouldn't have too many problems finding a parking spot at the stadium!
Safe travels!

There aren't really any hotels near the Stadium, but if you can get a room at the GranTree, the Wingate, or the Bozeman Inn those are all really big Bobcat Supporter hotels. The GranTree is nice because they have a restaurant/bar in the hotel.Purplehaze wrote:We are insane, but we are driving to Bozeman. Leaving Wed. afternoon.

Parking at the game isn't an issue if you get there early. If you aren't early then you do have to walk a ways, but it's not bad at all.

WOW
Now that is a drive! Parking isn't a problem just follow the signs and there will be people to show you were to park.
Lots of Hotels in Bozeman, but not really close to the stadium. Best Western Grantree is good as is the Hampton Inn and Holiday Inn. There are some new ones like the Come On Inn (can't remember how they actually spell that) and Hilton that are located just off 19th (first exit off I90 coming from the east).
Have a safe trip!

Hey man, that's the kind of fan I like to see. Best of luck with the drive, I've done the cross-country thing a couple of times, and depending on your schedule you can see some cool stuff. Heads up: don't go more than 80 mph through Wyoming, I've heard horror stories aobut people going 76 and getting a ticket (speed limit is 75).We are insane, but we are driving to Bozeman. Leaving Wed. afternoon.

Unfortunatley, most of Bozeman's, ok, all of Bozeman's hotels are on the north end of town, while the campus, and stadium are on the extreme south. But there is pleny of parking. Get there early and tailgate like you mean it!!!
But here's an insider's tip to getting around Bozeman, since its a western town, almost every street is on a north-south, east-west orientation. The Bridger Mountains, the ones with the while "M" on them, are to the north. Going towards the M means you are driving north, going away from the M means you are going south.

You are insane. I would anticipate that you would need to do some all night driving as well if you are leaving on Wednesday. When I was a kid living in Atlanta, we used to go visit relatives in western Nebraska. The fastest we ever made that trip was two days and that was driving 10+ hours a day. We usually did it in 2.5 days. Of course that was back when the speed limit was 55 and my parents drove. Mapquest lists it as 2,120 miles from Greenville with a driving time of 31 hours.Purplehaze wrote:We are insane, but we are driving to Bozeman. Leaving Wed. afternoon.
