The Bobcat Nation

At work on Friday, covered head to toe in my Bobcat stuff, a young girl obviously a griz fan, made a usual smack comment on what I was wearing. She then proceeded to tell me that I must be "one of those Bobcat Bandwagoners" I said, "Oh really?" She then said how so many people are going over to the Bobcat side just because the Cats have beaten the griz lately. I started laughing. I told her that no, I graduated from MSU and have always been proud of that fact, and always been behind the Cats. I found it pretty funny that now the griz are accusing us of having bandwagoners. If so, good for us I guess.

The way I look at it, there are three type of fans in Montana. The first two are Montana State fans and Griz fans and they are a noble breed of fan. They route for their teams through thick and thin. Then there are bandwagon fans they root for which ever team they feel is doing best at a given point of fans. These are the same fans that will boo at their home team, when ever they feel like it or start screaming because the team did not win their first game or two. The first two take ownership in their teams the third believes the team owes them.

There is one more fan type… the begrudging fan. These are the folks who find themselves routing for the Cats or the Griz because a hometown kid is playing. I’ve had plenty of friends who went to Griz games because of friend’s kids playing there. They didn’t like it; but they went!

I guess you can't fault that type of fan...
