It looks like they run a lot. It also looks like they aren't real explosive on offense and they play a lot of close games.

They barely got by GA Southern yesterday 13-10.

I like this match-up; the 'Cats have a solid run defense, so unless Danny Woodhead suits up for Furman, it should be a very competitive game.

I know their away uni's look like Weber's and their team name is the Paladins which, coincidentally, is a long range mobile artillery platform used by the U.S. Army....

I think they are a small private school in South Carolina; they come from the Southern Conference. They played North Carolina tough 45-42 but I don't think they will be any match for the cats, especially in Bozeman.

Not that North Carolina was any good this year (neither was Colorado) but Furman lost 45-42 early in the year to them. Looks like they have had a couple QB's split time this year.

I know Montana beat them in the 2001 Championship game!

I watched them play North Carolina, and they looked real good in that game. Their RB was a horse. OL looked real good. And their D did some hitting.
In that game, I was impressed with them.

0-1 against universities from Montana.

Hope you are ready for some very good Southern Baptist company, because these are some of the best people I've ever been around. In fact, the new principal of my last High School in Georgia played tight end on their national championship team and I'm giving him a call this week. His coach is the the great Bill Napier whose son was Furman's qb when Louis Ivory got hurt the week before their 13-9 game from the team we lost to Saturday. Could someone please post the brackets?

Looks like I'm the first Furman fan checking in at bobcat nation.


Furman is traditionally a run-oriented team. We normally like to keep the number of passes to 20 or below, but injuries have forced us to change our gameplan at times. When our starting QB, Renaldo Gray, is playing, we're more run oriented. When the backup, Jordan Sorrells, has to play, we throw the ball a lot more b/c he's not a good runner.

Furman's offense always comes back to the FB Jerome Felton. He's been banged up recently, but when healthy, he's one of the most punishing runners in all of I-AA football. He's 6'0", 250 lbs and his legs are always moving. He basically missed about a total of 2 to 2.5 games toward the end of the year, but he still had 22 TDs. He had 4 TD's against North Carolina and six against WCU.

The RB, Cedrick Gipson, is more of a shifty runner who would rather make you miss than run over you, but he does hit the hole hard.

The OL is confusing. Furman traditional has one of the best OL's in the country, but we've been really beat up this year and haven't developed much chemistry. The inconsistent OL play is probably the main factor in keeping us from being explosive on offense and putting opponents away late.

The defense is much improved from last year. We're more of a bend but don't break type of D. We've had trouble defending taller WR's, but we defend against the run pretty well. The key player on our defense is MLB, Andrew Jones. Near the top of SoCon and NCAA in tackles, he has been our rock all year.

Our special teams are up and down, and they have cost us a few games over the last few years.

One of the key things about Furman this year has been our inability to do anything on offense in the second half. We haven't scored a TD (in regulation) in the second half in a long time.

It sounds like the cats are in for another physical type bruising game. They just got through with one of those. I hope they can lick there wounds and be mentally prepared for another one.

Outlook: The resume isn’t spectacular and some of the wins were close, but an 8-3 overall record and 6-1 mark in the Southern Conference should get Furman in the playoff field.

Thank you, good luck in the game on Sat. As of now it looks like it is going to be 35* on Sat. How do you think your guys are going to handle that? I have family in SC and they always make me laugh when they think it is cold.

Jerome Felton is the best FB in college football, at any level. This guy scares the crap out of me.
