Playoff Opponent after win...

Post by catsrback76 » Fri Nov 17, 2006 9:07 am

Rather than thinking we lose, I'm thinking we win tomorrow. After we dispatch the griz, who do we play in the playoffs? Who is likely to be our first round opponent?

That is an interesting question. I think most associated with MSU are optomistic of having a home game, should we beat the Griz.

Below is who most of the pundants are picking for the field. If we beat the Griz, we would replace Montana as the auto, and Montana would replace PSU as an at large, thus knocking out PSU in my opinion.

1. *APP ST
2. *UMASS
3. *MONTANA
4. *YSU

*HAMPTON
*LEHIGH
*MCNEESE ST
*UT MARTIN

CCU
EIU
FURMAN
ILS
JMU
PSU
SIU
UNH

In this scenario, the bad thing about San Diego not making it, is McNeese would probably end up in Missoula. Therefore, the remaining possibilities for coming to Bozeman would be S. Illinois or maybe EIU. S. Illinois would provide a stern test for the Bobcats.

You guys travelling to YSU is probably a possibility, too. They have to host somebody, and most of the teams in the field that are close to them are in their conference...

I saw Southern Illinois crush Northern Iowa, they hung 50 some up on them, however they don't look real fast, just big and strong and have a good running back. If we are going up against YSU for a home game we lose ...they have a larger attendance record. I suppose everyone has to host someone and not everyone can host...so hopefully some of the larger attendance schools get ousted.

The griz are still going to get an auto if we beat them. And two auto's from the BSC mean no at-large for anyone else, I think.

If we win tommorrow we will be considered for a home playoff game, if we lose most people are picking PSU to get the at large. So here is my question: How do we go from being considered for a home playoff game to completly out of the picture with a loss? You would figure that if we were in consideration to host with a win we would at least get in and have to travel somwhere with a loss.

I might be missing something but it seems a little weird to me that PSU would get the nod over us with the same record and the result of our head to head matchup.

I am not totally sure about this but I believe if we win tomorrow the fiz will be an at large selection. The BSC only gets one auto.

Yeah...I think Longhorn is confusing "auto" with "seed." If we lose, there is talk that we may still be seeded, (although I actually doubt that we would be; I think JMU may take it from us, unless they lose also. We'd be in the mix, though, I suppose.) MSU would be the auto berth, though.

I thought that if you win the conference, you get an auto bid. Just like a couple years ago, we both tied for the conference and both got auto bids.

No, in 2002 and 2003 we got the autobid for conference champions because we won the tiebreakers. the Griz were at large.

Thanks. I kind of figured that after I thought about it a bit, but it makes sense now.
