Let's have some fun Part VII

Post by Platinumcat » Wed Nov 15, 2006 1:30 pm

Put on your thinking caps fellas, this one's for bragging rights, conference title, and potential home playoff game; in increasing order of importance.

So,

1) Does the bye week play to our favor more from a health/game plan view point? Or, do we play rusty?

-I think our gameplan will be top shelf. The defense will come out playing well. The offense will take the longest to get going. But, once they execute, we will gain yards. We are healthy and chompin' at the bit.

2) Which staff does a better job of game planning, play calling, in game adjustments?

-The past three out of four years, we have won due in large part to our coaches doing a better job then theirs. I say we still do a great job this year. But, it won't be the deciding factor in the game.

3) Which QB has the better game?

- I think it's a tale of the halves. Rolo will have better stats in the first half as we jump on the them. But, Swogger will have better stats in the second half as they are forced into a lot of passing situations to try and catch up. Also, we'll go into our sit on a lead mentality and stop throwing the ball as much (see last year's game).

4) Which RB corps has the better game?

-Simple...we're just plain better here.

5) Who wins the battle on the line of scrimmage?

- Our D-line vs their O-line: We win, this is their achilles heel this year. Where their offensive line goes, they go. This Saturday they don't go far.
-Our O-line vs their D-line: Neutral through most but we win late. They are athletic here (especially when you throw in their LB's). But, they are small on the D-ends (fast but small). If we have any commitment to the run in this game, we will wear them out as they won't be able to just sprint rush the corners around our tackles (UNC actually was doing this very well against them last week until they were forced into passing situations because their D couldn't stop what the Griz were doing).

6) Do Special Teams play a neutral role, win the game for us, or lose the game for us due to our play?

-Our special teams will surprise everyone. At the very worst, we will be neutral here.

7) Does their crowd impact the game?

-The crowd will be nuts. But, we've had two weeks to prepare for this environment. We've played well there the past two times and it won't be the end all this time either.

8) Will the defenses rule the day? Or, will the offenses find and exploit weaknesses?

- Throw the dice here. The Griz D has been dominant most of the time this year. They have shown susceptibility at times. But, only for short moments at a time. Our D has been more of a bend don't break type deal. But, they rarely break. I don't see either team putting up 500+ yards. But, I do think both offenses will get into the 20's.
9)Who wins and why?

-There's not a doubt in any part of my body that the Bobcats will win. Why? Because we've won six straight, because we're undefeated on the road, because we've exhibited the ability to play superiorly on turf this year, because we've got more to play for. By this I understand that both teams are playing for bragging rights, both teams are playing for the conference championship (outright title for Griz). But, the Griz are assured a playoff game at this point; probably two home games at least even if they lose. So, the Bobcats are fighting for their post season lives. This just takes it over the edge for me.

We've won nine straight, only have one road loss (to Iowa) and undefeated at Washington-Griz, played well enough on turf, and are tired of the sharing the title with you and want a top 2 seed (so we have a lot to play for). Should be a barn-burner. Good luck!

1. Rust and focus is always a concern with bye weeks, especially when you have 6 games worth of momentum heading into the bye. In this case, that concern is outweighed by the extra 7 days of healing up the little aches and pains (and letting Mason recharge his batteries a little).

2. Cats, Cats and Cats. No disrespect to Bobby, but I just like Kramer in this matchup. Special teams play calling and execution worry me a little, but I hope that the extra week to plan will help.

3. This all depends on the O-lines. I think that Rolo will outplay Swogger regardless, but by how much depends on how many guys we can put in the Griz backfield when Swogger drops back to pass.

4. No question it's the Cats. Groves with an extra week of getting healthy, Mason with an extra week of rest, Taito with an extra week of practice. 'Nuff said...

5a. Cat D vs. Griz O: Cats, hands down.

5b. Griz D vs. Cat O: Gotta lean to the Griz on this one due to the speed and athleticism. I just hope the Cat offense does enough to keep them honest and stop them from pinning their ears back and making Rolo's life miserable. Keep them off balance with screens and draws.

6. Special teams won't be neutral, but won't be game deciding. It will definitely be gut-wrenching. I give the Griz the advantage, but think the Cats will play just well enough to keep from a huge momentum swing.

7. Crowd will definitely have an impact, on both sides. WaGriz is just too dang loud to ignore, but this could add to the Cats "Us against the world" mentality. One good thing is that the Cats seem to relish playing in a hostile environment. They'd better, because the definition of hostile is about 3 days away.

8. Defenses will rule the day, maybe even score as much as the offenses.

9. Cats win. It's close, hard-fought and a little ugly. 14-10.

I agree with SeeHarg. TURNOVERS!!!!

I think it will be between Swogger and Rolovich in the turnover dept. If one of them turns the ball over twice, that team will be at a severe disadvantage. I like our chances with Rolovich much better than Carpenter, because he stretches the fiedl and Carpenter doesn't seem to. Rolovich will throw that deep ball 5 or 6 times a game (sometimes even when he has a short guy wide open) and that keeps those LB's and DB's form crowding the line and helps open up the shorter routes and the running game. I think if Rolovich can connect an at least 2 20+ yard throws in the first quarter, then the running game and a well rested Groves will get rolling and put alot of pressure on that tough Griz D. I think we need to control the ball thru running it, and not cough it up or throw picks.

9)Who wins and why?
1. BYE week helps CATS more - especially Bailey - he seems to do better with two weeks prep and it should enable the CATS to have the first 10-15 plays lined up making it easier to ignore the crowd
2. Coaches - CATS for pre-game prep - however, the griz have shown a great ability to make adjustments at the half - we'd better be ready
3. Which QB - they both have a lot to prove - I think if Rolo is turned loose he can really cause some damage with Jefferson and Weaton...Swogger will not do well if we can pressure him
4. RB - CATs should be able to dominate and really push the line giving our RBs plenty of lanes
5. Line of scrimmage - we our D should be able to push the griz around - hopefully the two weeks of practice and film will help them getting caught by a lot of misdirection and fakes - except little bobby to run a lot of that at us. pound for pound we should dominate
6. special teams -griz have advantage - i hope we've made some major improvements over the last two weeks (see cardiac cat)
7. crowd - i think we can take the crowd out of the game - get ahead and then POUND the ball - slow, steady progress and you'll start to hear the desperation (and bodies falling off the griz bandwagon).....

my two cents

1. I HATE BYE WEEKS...that's a personal issue. I think that will give some guys some rest who need it (Force especially). It'll be good to get Marcosus back...he's a hammer, but the other guys did a great job filling in for him...they are a little bit quicker and have a few better reads than he does...it's a give and take relationship and hopefully we will be giving it to them all afternoon and taking the automatic bid from them when it's all said and done.

2. I have liked how our staff has finally realized our teams potential and adapted their play calling to their strengths instead of having the team adapt to the play calling. In the end I think we get outcalled on the offensive front, but our D will step up big when needed. I think we need to do some variations on our d-front again to keep them off guard. I think the UM staff works on predictability and if we can vary it up we've got em.

3. Rolo is going to be on this game. I think we mix it up enough to get some guys open out there and he finds his marks. He's always played better on turf that was fast :-)

4. I think we have more depth which is going to be our strength. Losing Lex was bad for them, big for us. I think we get some good push up the field and take advantage of the turf and beat their backers to holes. We got this one

5. No doubt our d-line is going to make their o-line look bad. I've been more than impressed with how well they have played all year long.

6. Our special teams might hurt us but we'll make up for it. DONT KICK TO TUFF HARRIS!!!!

7. NOPE...nuff said!!!

8. I think we are gonna have some points in this game so O will be busy!!!

9. Cats 31-27 - WE WANT IT AND THAT'S ALL!!!

ESG-GCG!!!
