Cat/Griz Predictions

Post by Cat-theotherwhitemeat » Mon Nov 13, 2006 5:03 pm

Let's hear em', not with your heart, but with your head.

For the first time in a few years I think the Griz are better talent wise. I think this game will be close for the first 3 quarters and the Griz pull away late.

Griz - 31
Cats - 17

I think it will be close and the Cats stellar running game will "ice it" late.

Honestly, the only way the score isn't close either way is if we give the griz too many easy points or great field position (i.e. interceptions returned for TD, blocked punts, punt returns, etc.). If we self destruct in any way we could be in trouble which is my big fear. If Rolovich is steady and makes good decisions (unlike the int in the end zone on our first series the last game) and we punt like we did against UNC, none of that will happen.

Assuming we play relatively error free and can at least neutralize the crowd, I see us slowly taking over both lines of scrimmage, pressuring Swogger just enough, and holding on for a gut wrenching 23 -21 win.

If they (coaches) let Rolo be Rolo he could throw for a lot of yards. It looked like the coaches had him playing "safe" football in the last two games. No turnovers but no gunslinger either. If he can just let it loose he could have a great game. He would throw a couple of interceptions but that may be a worth while trade off.

Our D probably had the lowest sack total in the last 5 plus years (anyone have that stat). Our front four could not get any pressure. If that happens this weekend Swogger will pick us apart.

Bottom line is our QB performance and our ability to rush the passer will determine the outcome. How those two play out could make the score 35-14 either way.

Gtapp,
I honestly believe you have hit on the two biggest keys to this game. Also, the two biggest reasons this team has gone from that three game skid to winning six straight. Both of those factors were non-existent in particularly that three game skid; QB play was poor and we were allowing the opponent's QB all the time in the world to find open guys.

I will add that I am amazingly calm at this point for a normal Cat/Griz week.

I am confident these two keys will play to our favor.

And

I have absolutely no doubt that the Bobcats are going to win this weekend.

With both defenses being as good as they are, and both offenses seem to play inconsistently, I just don't see it being a high scoring game. Special teams, field position, and turnovers dictate play. Field position will play a key in the first half as I think both teams will play cautiously in an attempt not to make a mistake.

For Cat fans wanting to see the death of the roll punt, it won't happen Saturday. Tuff Harris has been as good as anyone in 1-AA in returns, so Kramer won't even let him sniff the ball. The Cat tightends will play a big role as the one area where the Griz D has been soft is the short passing game over the middle of the field.

I think the Cats will pull out a hard-fought, close game. No prediction on a score, but marging of victory probably won't be more than 7-10 points, and total score may not make it into the 30s.

If the Cats have a good game at quaterback and were able to be balanced this will be a 14 point win the offense will be balanced witht hte run and the pass killin clock while the defense stays rested and dominate.. if the quaterback position has trouble our offense will been running uphill and will have to fight to keep the ball and the griz will have the advantage being at home.. making it a 3 point game probobly for the griz....i predict a good rolo game except for one bad quater making it a cat victory 21-17

Las Vegas line:

MSU -3.5 @ UM

Cat offense will do what it does. Cat defense will rise to the occasion, like it has done every time in the last 6 games, and holds the Friz to 3 or 4 fewer points. The score could be 3-0, 48-44, or anything in between. Regardless, CATS win.

If I was asked this question and the 3 game home losing streak never took place, I would bet on the griz. Just because we havn't really beat our opponents by a huge margin, and its a nail-bitter till the clock clicks 00:00. The griz then take our apponents usually by a larger margin.

But, the 3 game home loss did happen, since then, this team and staff has turned itself around as a collective. Plain and simple, they believe in themselves, and I think at this point the "Emotion" factor counts for more than the talent on the other side of the ball. The griz have emotion too, definitely. Yet, its as if they just assume their entitiled to a confrence champ and playoffs every year. Good program, no doubt. However, humility can be painfull.

Cats by 31; I dont think this year the kids, nor Kramer, nor the staff are going to let up till the clock reads 00:00

There is no way our D lets the cats score 31.

This won't be close... we win by 2 TD's. Swogger becomes Slogger and is harrassed by our LB's and DE's all day. Our RB's run for 150+ and Jefferson is huge.
UM has no offense this game and their D tires by the end of the 3rd quarter as Mason spells Groves and his quickness burns the bears.

MSU 28 um 14

Cats 14
Griz 10

Being that a low scoring game is my prediction, the Cats will probably put 37 on the board. As long as it's a win for the good guys, I could care less.

Yes, 31 more points than what the griz score.

Of course their not, what was I thinking. Our D will score those extra 31 points on your O. OUCH! ZING! KACHOW!

No, seriously though, I think our offense will do really well on Sat, by Air, Land and TD.
