Desin: How does it work for him?
With the football season still going, how is Desin handling this schedule?
1) As a redshirt on the football team he still plays on the scout team. Is he still practicing?
2)Would Kramer allow a scholarship kid to not finish out the football season to play another sport?
3)Is Desin just walking on with the basketball team?
4)If he gets a scholarship, can the b-ball and football coaches split scholarship money?
I'm not up on dual athletes at all as it just doesn't happen all that often. Anybody know?

I not sure about all the questions you posed, but I do know he walked on to the basketball team and was not offered a scholarship. I would assume that since the first few bball games the Cats have are at home that Kramer probably has no problem with Mark's participation. It will be interesting to watch how this progresses in the coming seasons as Mark becomes more involved in the football offense.barechestcat wrote:With the football season still going, how is Desin handling this schedule?

Re: Desin: How does it work for him?
1) My understanding is that he is making most of the Basketball and Football practices BUT not all.barechestcat wrote:With the football season still going, how is Desin handling this schedule?

2) Guessing here only if he is a redshirt. Next year I would bet he will not join the basketball team until football is over.
3) Technically Desin is a basketball walk-on
4) NCAA rules states that if Desin gets scholarship money from the athletic department, all of the scholarship money is counted against the football scholarships. Example, if Kramer had Nick Dissly to play one one play of one game as a kick off returner or wide reciever, his scholar ship would, by NCAA rules, be shifted from basketball to Football for the entire school year.

We've had a couple of two-sport athletes in the past. Mark Fellows comes to mind. So it is possible -- just takes alot of coordination between the two programs and a ton of discipline and dedication from the athlete. From what I understand, Desin has both.

I thought Fellows played forward/center for awhile during his MSU career. I could be mistaken, though. Da@#n, mslacat, now you're making me have to go do some research!mslacat wrote:Did Mark Fellows play both sports? I did not remember that! The first guy who comes to mind for me was Scott Harry about 10 years or so back.

Hey, what about Aaron Rich about 5 years back. He was asked by Kramer to help as a kicker. I believed he kicked for one game in the afternoon, then started for the basketball team that night.
BTW. Because of those handful of football games Rich was then considered a football player walking on the basketball team, by the NCAA.

Mark played Football I don't think he played basketball, but I could be wrong, Mike though played only basketball, although he might have made a decent O-line man.canyoncat wrote:Your thinking of his brother, Mike Fellows.1BadBobcat wrote:I thought Fellows played forward/center for awhile during his MSU career.
