I have not heard anything but I am sure that special teams was discussed. I bet the plan is to fix the mistakes this week.

At QBC Kramer said that we will continue with the roll punt with Bolton. He said the problems Saturday were with missed blocks not with the punt. Otherwise the special teams looked pretty good.

He said Bostick will take over the short snaps and Clive will continue with the long snaps. He said that Carpenter will be the holder.

Lulay will play as the third receiver this week and Evin will probably start at RB with Taito getting some work. I think Mason is a little banged up so I think he gets a rest this week.

Kramer was disappointed with the RB efforts against Weber. He said they both reverted to bad habits.

He said Rolovich was the Big Sky defensive player of the week for taking Mike Jefferson out of the game! He was open all day. When McBride looks at the game films he might reconsider his bold statements about his CB's.

Thanks for the update.
I think Kramer is right on the money. I watched the Altitude replay (on DVD) and the roll punts problem is the blocking. If we get that down, then we have a chance with it.
Good to see some changes with the snapping - we have had some problems there. And also good to see Carpenter back in uniform, even if it is only to hold the long snaps.

Did he say anything about UNC's schemes? I honestly don't know if they are a good running or passing team, and what they like to do on Defense....just curious.

We never discussed UNC

There was a decent article by Mansch about the UNC match-up in the Trib yesterday. They are predominantly a running team with a back averaging over 100 yards a game, (plays to our defensive strength. Their touchdown to int ratio is about 2 to 14 though, so if they throw, our secondary will gave a BIG day, especially if our front seven bring alot of pressure.

He has a minor shoulder dislocation and is listed as 'highly questionable' for this week. I don't expect him to play at all. Might as well get 3 weeks off to get healthy for the Cat/griz game.

Maybe I just don't understand football very well ... but doesn't the roll punt make blocking that much harder and that much higher risk ... and thus when a small mistake is made we give up, say, 9 points? Doesn't the very process of roll punting make blocks more likely than the traditional method ... especially when everybody knows exactly what you are doing?

If we aren't very good at roll punting (and the evidence sure points in that direction, given the points we've handed our opponents coupled with our miserable punting average), why do we keep doing it?

If we average 40 yard punts the rest of the season and don't give up any more blocks, safeties, etc., I will stop complaining. I just have a really hard time accepting Kramer's statements that there isn't something either inherently wrong with the concept or our application of it.

It would be nice if there was a lefty to change things up and balance the field a bit. It may increase the possibilities for fakes as well.

I couldn't agree more. And to add to that, if we're sticking with the roll punt, do we have any left-footed kickers that might possibly roll out to the left? Our punting scheme is just a little too predictable.

If we haven't figured out how to successfully block on the roll punt by now are we really going to fugure it out. We haven't figured it out in Kramer's tenure. Teams are sure figuring out how to block though.

Last Saturday Clagett blocked to the inside and the safety did a twist with the DE. Clagett should have picked up the Safety rushing to the outside (his assignment). That was the blocked kick. Other than that...Force started to run and kicked it off his knee. That was when Bolton started to do the kicking.

That kind of reinforces my point ... the blocking scheme for a punt shouldn't be as complicated as a perfectly executed sweep ... it's supposed to be virtually mistake proof (you block the guy who runs toward you ... and if you slow him down even a little, the punter will have plenty of time to get the punt away).

It seems like we are taking something really simple and making it very complicated ... and making a lot of mistakes as a result.

speaking of the roll punt...has anybody else noticed that West Virginia uses the roll punt as well?
