Adjustments this week

What adjustments do we need to make this week?
On the offense the single greatest adjustment needs to be the Rolovich reciever rythyms. More work on routes and reads and Rolovich will settle.
OLine- work. It looked like the line was concrete in the first half and a sieve in the 2nd half. What was the difference? Blocking and false starts needs to be a point of focus. Someone tell Jensen to NOT MOVE until pinched on the leg by the guard.
RB's are running well. Get rest and stay healthy is all we can ask. Keep hitting the holes with squared shoulders and run downhill!
On the defense-- KEEP IT UP. Our defense will will this league championship and get us into the playoffs--IF they keep the intensity up and play like the last 3 games. Great Job DEFENSE you are now turning heads and getting nods from your opponents.
Any other armchair coaching adjustments I missed?
OH-- yeah-- someone needs to decide what to do with our punting...almost forgot. That needs a little work.

Special Teams: They need to work on the roll out punting. I though Force did a nice job as he seems to get the punt off a lot quicker. We need to get the punting better or it could cost us a game later this year or this week. You would hate to lose a game by special teams when your O and D are playing very well etc. I'm sure they will work on that this week. We might get some monster punts this week on that fast ISU turf though as well. Hopefully the punting will be limited though!

Why can't we do a standard punt if we are say behind the 40 and just boom it out of there, but it we are near midfield or across it use the roll punt to pin people deep? Bolton could do the standard punting and Force could do the roll punt. That is what makes sense to me! Anyone else like the idea?

Other things on my mind:
1) O-line needs to get back to maintaining blocks this week. It seemed we slipped in this department against SSU. Get back to that attacking mentality I've seen the previous two weeks. I think as much as pinching Jensen, the guard needs to repeat snap count to him as they come up to the line of scrimmage. Something needs to be done here; Taito sure seemed to respond to a loss of play time with some hard running. Maybe the same would work for Jens.
2) QB - Jack came out a blazing early in the game. The second half was a different call selection. But, I felt that either due to the playcalling or that it was Jack's first start, his rhythm was off. So, for him, I think he needs to work on being able to concentrate an entire game on the task at hand; Junior mentioned this is always an issue to some degree with players when they haven't been involved with the entire game for several years. BTW, do we even know if Jack is starting? If Cory was possible for SSU, will he be back for ISU? If so, Cory's adjustment is obvious, he needs to force himself to look downfield for those routes that stretch the field and have the patience to allow the play to develop. He just needs to relax a little more.
3) RB - 76 already said it!
4) WR- Stay disciplined and bust it every play. We saw the fruits of this in the first half with some long completions.
5) HC - allow your OC to call the game according to the gameplan that's been developed and approved. Varying from it in the middle of the game messes with everyone.
Defense
1) Your intensity is awesome..keep it up
2) LB's need to have a huge game this week. Back side players need to take proper pursuit angles in order to minimize the ISU RB's cut back ability.
3) DB's always know where Akilah Lacey is. Guiterrez appears to be the gunslinging type as he has thrown several INT's...let's get some.
4) DC - please remain aggressive in your calling. IMO this is the number one reason we have seen a turnaround in this unit. Continued pressure in the backfield is a big key IMO.
Special teams
1) Kickoff return - sounds like this is going to be practiced a lot more this week; that appears to be needed.
2) Punt - become less predictable, throw in a fake from time to time to keep them from constantly overloading the roll out side. Get Ryan a bunch of practice this week in kicking it and getting proper elevation on the kick (the blocking was there on both blocks, the ball was kicked too low).
Overall, keep the chip on your shoulder. Continue to find ways to win the game.

Do you think I could get hired as the special teams coach?

My concern here is that it becomes a key for opposing teams. There's no element of potential surprise. Who comes in for fakes?
I think you ultimately have to find one guy who just gets it done. I do wish it was someone other then Ryan. While I appreciate his overall athletic ability, he does not necessarily kick the ball far.
Tyler has the leg for it if he would just become more consistent.

Todays Chronicle says Force will take over punting duties. They will work on kickoff returns this week. Amazing stat from Sat. that I hadn't picked up on- the 'D' had no penalties.
Go 'Cats!!

Yes-- good pick up. The kick returns/punt returns seems to be an area that has not been there since Cory returned for us a few years back. Lewis has the speed, but he always seems to run straight to the sidelines in hopes of popping the corner. If you notice, the great punt returners and kick off players will more times than not make an initial strike at the center of the field and then angle for the sidelines.
With speed, you can make more people miss if you run straight at them and give a slight fake, than if you try to out run them sideline to sideline. Great job COACH! Get to work on that...ok?
