There was a Big womens AAU tourney in Las Vegas this last week. While not as big as the Mens Tourneys (3 going at the same time) it is the place to go to be noticed by college coaches and scouts. The Big Sky Montana AAU team made it to the sweet 16 before being beat by a very talented team that went deep in the tourney. The team is/was very Talented but the big thing to notice is that it's best player's were Juniors and Sophmores to be. Beleave it or not Scout.com does have one site (and one person) that features girls highschool basketball. It has been 2-3 years since they have mentioned anything about a Montana girls basketball player. Here is what they had to say about Montana players during and after the tourny.

Alexandra Hurley

Joslyn Tinkle of Missoula, Mont.

Alexandra Hurley, a 6-foot wing from Anaconda, Mont., stands out for her relentlessness in working the offensive glass, pulling 2-3 boards in single sequences. She also is aggressive in attacking the rim off the dribble, showing equal adeptness with the right or left hand on the attack and finish. She runs and jumps well and quickly fills lanes and gets down the court. Her jump shot is a little flat, especially off the dribble.

Joslyn Tinkle, a 6-3 post out of Missoula, Mont., is the daughter of Wayne Tinkle, who is replacing Larry Larry Krystkowiak as the head men's basketball coach at Montana, and plays like a coach's daughter. Impressive for a player so young, she does not overcommit to anything, showing strong restraint and instincts. She moves well, shows a little handle, works the glass hard and can step out with reliable three-point range. In the post, she effectively uses head-and-shoulder fakes and, against Regina Rogers of Seattle, a heralded 2007 post prospect, showed a jump hook, turnaround jumper and step-through move. Tinkle likes to turn left on her moves and can finish a variety of shots with her left hand. She has good size and can hold her ground defensively, though her future likely is as a power forward or, with ballhandling improvement, a big wing.

money from 12-14 feet out.
Kirsten Tilleman, a 6-1 wing from Bozeman, Mont., is long and extremely mobile. She excels at attacking the rim, dribbling and finishing with either hand. She also fills lanes and gets down court quickly, making her an excellent candidate for a team that likes to attack in transition. She shoots almost all of her shots off the dribble, mostly on the run as opposed to pulling up, and maintains good balance.
2009 Grad
Torry Hill, a 5-7 point guard from Anaconda, Mont., has an opportunity to be one of the country's special lead guards in a couple of years. She has good instincts for a guard her age, playing against much older players. She can dribble out of trouble, penetrate and dish or finish, and hit the three-pointer with regularity. She has a tendency to use a little too much wrist snap on her shot, which flattens it out. Like most young players, she can use more strength and seems to have the body type to accomodate that.

Alexandra Hurley

Joslyn Tinkle of Missoula, Mont.

All 3 of these Montana girls you mentioned would be great additions to the program, mslacat. I've seen Tilleman play before and she is an excellent player. While Tinkle is also great, based on her bloodlines the Bobcats have about as much of a chance of landing her as a paratrooper has of landing in a cup of water after jumping from 20,000 feet. She'll be a Griz. I don't know where Hurley stands, but she would be a good one.
GO CATS!

Actually there are 4 Girls there. Tinkle may seem like a lock for the Griz, she has top 25 potential and even with daddy coaching there, she could go much higher.bozbobcat wrote:All 3 of these Montana girls you mentioned would be great additions to the program, mslacat. Hurley is already hearing from Pac-10 schools. I have heard she would like to go as high as possible. If it comes down to the Montana schools I really think she is going to the Griz....... but it is early.
I know nothing on Tory Hill.
Binford needs to establish her program as an up and coming force to be recon with and convice Tillman that Montana State is a valid option.

Torry Hill looks like she'll be a good player, too. A good point guard is difficult to find and she sounds like she'll be a good one. Binford does need to build up the program, but all indications are that she's doing that. The next few years should be fun as the women's basketball team continues to improve. They might have a shot at these kinds of players in a year or two.

In the paper version of the Missoulain they have a blurb on on the Montana Big Sky AAU team winning the AAU 15U (15 years old or under) National Championship. This is the same team that I talked about above, but they were playing in an open division. In the AAU 15U only division Montana Big Sky team out scored the competition 424-142. They took on teams from all accross the country and the best of the best players. Tinkle was dominating averaging double / doubles. Hurley and Tilleman were also pretty darn impresive also. The team was mainly made up of Anacond and Butte player with Tilleman and Tinkle added.
Very impresive!! and look out for Anaconda in the next 4 years!

Anaconda will need to get past Miles City next year and beyond that, you just never want to count your chickens before they hatch. I hear that there's a whole lot of that going on in Anaconda already (i.e. predicting multiple state championships for these girls). The Anaconda bunch that are incoming frosh have been quite impressive, but having seen them play the only piece they are lacking is size. That's why they went out and got Tinkle, Tilleman, and the center from CMR for these tournaments this spring and summer. These are all big girls. If Bill Hill had a big girl from Anaconda or Butte, he would have went and gotten her. BTW, does any one know if any of these girls play volleyball, too?

Lyndi Seidensticker is on big woman in this picture.
I have heard that Binford is recruiting 5-10 Lyndi Seidensticker from Lewis and Clark high school in Spokane Washington. Her highschool won the state championship last year and will be one of the favorite to repeat. I believe Lewis and Clark had a national top 50 girls player on their team last and will have another this year. I understand she is a guard /forward very strong and physical girl that really competes hard. She has a reputation for hitting big shots, at the end of the game. She averaged around 10 pts a game last season but that average should go up significantly this year. I hear from Washington she is very interested in Montana State.

Shawnee Carter is the center girl
I have also heard that a girl named Shawnee Carter a 6-2 forward / center visited MSU the same week end as Seidensticker. I don’t know much about her other than what I dug up on the net. She is from Pasadena High School in California. The same high school as current Bobcat mens player, Danny Piepoli, and also a another player (Trevon Harmon) I read the men maybe recruiting this year. Carter is a very highly respected player in California circles.

Tilleman's an excellent athlete. I've seen her play in Billings. She has a great cross over, excellent ball handling and footwork. That comes as no surprise since her dad told me she played soccer for a number of years as a kid.
Her dad also informed me Pac10 teams have shown interest in her since she was a freshman. I hope the Cats find a way to sign her before the big schools sink their hooks in.

Can't tell you for sure.grizzh8r wrote:Is Seidensticker any relation to the MBB player the Griz had a few years back?? (Or as I liked to call him Backenstabber)

You're referring to Matt Seidensticker from Shelby. He played with the griz from ~95-98. Used to be a pretty good friend of mine.grizzh8r wrote:Is Seidensticker any relation to the MBB player the Griz had a few years back?? (Or as I liked to call him Backenstabbermslacat wrote:

A couple of tid bit of information about the Cat women's team.
I have heard that Binford is recruiting 6-4 Melissa Rima of Monroe High school in Alaska she is also being recruited by Boise St, Oregon St, and Arkansas. She averaged 13 points, and 8 rbs a game. She has been an all state player since her freshman year.
Additionally I have heard that the women Cats team has received a commitment this week from a high school player. I think I know who it is but not 100% at this point.
