Coach Sprinkle
I talked to someone at the fieldhouse late today and he told me that he looked out his window and saw Danny Sprinkle, new Bobcat assistant coach, walking into the fieldhouse on his way to work. I made a mistake and first posted this under the Durham assistant thread.

I heard Huse was interviewing early this week for the positions, so he may have just been here to do that?

I am hearing that announcement is due today or maybe tomorrow on assitants and it maybe more than just Sprinkle. I have also heard that Sprinkle was one of the first phone calls made by Huse once he was notified he was the choice (even before Huse "officially" got hire).
I have have not commented on this yet, but if Carson is not going to be retained, Huse better replace him with someone of equal quality. Sprinkle would be that guy, but Carson is a top notch Big Sky assistant one of the best in the Big Sky from top to bottom, plus he is a quality person and at times was the glue that held the teams together I will miss Scott.

Mslcat.... I am in agreement and if Carson is not on the list I sure wish him success. I know he will land on his feet and do very well. And having Sprinkle with Coach Huse will be a LOAD of energy to add to the continued success of Bobcat basketball. Great combo... and I look forward to hearing of the rest of the staff.

The 1st Assistant is generally the recruiting coordinator, but at CSN I understand that Sprinkle was the #2 but the recruiting coordinator. That tells you how highly reguarded his recruiting skills are.suckitgriz wrote:Sprinks has been assigned the First Head Assistant Title and will be i charge of the recruitment effort- he will be a great addition.
BTW anyone find the potential of Sprinkle vrs Tinkle a little humorous...... well I do.

I think that is great Dan is an energetic guy that will be a great addition. I too think highly of Carson but I respect and understand his decision to not keep any of the former coaches.
Question for mslacat: Any updates on any new signings? I just remeber you saying we might have one this coming week???

My take from the beginning was that if Huse wanted to have Sprinkle on his staff it was going to have to be as #1 assistant and recruiting coordinator. If not Sprinkle may not have been able to justify the move. So his dilemma was that you have the old #1 or a new #1...somebody had to go. Since Carson was #1 when Huse was there it would have been pretty awkward to be working for the guy who you outranked a few years ago...likewise it may have been awkward for Huse being Carson's boss. At least now Huse has a #1 assistant who was a player when he was a coach. I look for his other assistants to maybe be a his ex players or other guys who have not been assistants long. I don't think you'll see Carson, Clark, Brown or Durham
for that matter as one of the assistants!

I just wonder about loyalty tho. Scott gave his all for 10+ years and what does he get? The door! Not right! I am all for Danny being #1. Scott could have cared less I bet........Helcat72 wrote:My take from the beginning was that if Huse wanted to have Sprinkle on his staff it was going to have to be as #1 assistant and recruiting coordinator. I will role with suckitgriz on this one, it would not surprise me if Huse had his #1 assistant in the house for his other interviews.crazycat wrote:I heard Huse was interviewing early this week for the positions, so he may have just been here to do that?

Everyone has posted how sad it will be to see Carson go, but that is what happens when a new head guy comes in. Just think of when Kramer came in, out of eleven assistant coaches he kept one. When a new coach comes in and is charged with turning around a struggling program the best thing to do is to bring in all new blood. So yes you hate to see a 12yr vet loose his job but is anyone really that surprised? BTW I'm thrilled to see Sprinks back in town, I played fb for a couple years while he was here (he's older) and he is a good guy.
Let me explain something to you. Um, I am not "Mr. Lebowski". You're Mr. Lebowski. I'm the Dude. So that's what you call me. You know, that or, uh, His Dudeness, or uh, Duder, or El Duderino if you're not into the whole brevity thing.

It is a catch 22 situation, in some reguards. Bring Sprinkle on board is a great coup for us no doubt, but understand many of us think beyond the cold hard fact of the hiring process. Sometimes coaches become Family (well Bobcat Family anyway) it can be argued by some Brown and Clark were good coaches and fine additions to the staff, but Carson was different. Carson was a family member and by all acounts one of the finest assistants / recruiters in the Big Sky. Talk with the recruits families we have signed over the past couple years and you will get an idea what a fine person as well as a recruiter he was. I will miss Scott.badasscat wrote:Everyone has posted how sad it will be to see Carson go, but that is what happens when a new head guy comes in. Now that said, I don not want to say I am not thrilled to see Sprinkle come on board, I am. I think, though , we should be able to say good bye to someone who given so much to Bobcat basketball. Do not link the two events.
Now if Sprinkle would have hired lets say his brother as number #1 and recruiting coordinator and let Cason go I might not have liked that as well.
Scott Carson was a great assitant and a true Bobcat, and Danny will bring a new energy and a different look to the possition I just want to say thanks to Scott for all he has given in 12 years here and most notably the last few years. You will be missed by a great many of us
