Youngstown State or Yale?

Post by kwcat » Mon Nov 24, 2025 10:25 am

I don’t know much about Yale. I watched Youngstown State a few times this year. They are dangerous. I will post some highlights here.

Youngstown State quarterback Beau Brunsgards father Mark led Youngstown State to the national championships in the early 90s.
They’re coaching staff and players are humble and well spoken as well. That’s always impressive to me.

Beyond any football reasons, I personally want Yale. Would just love to see an Ivy school.
I do think Yale is an easier matchup style-wise as well. Youngstown is definitely dangerous.

I watched Youngstown's last regular season game against Northern Iowa last night, they looked totally dominant in the first half leading 28-3 and then completely fell apart on defense in the second half to almost let a bad UNI team come all the way back and win. That QB is legit but I feel like they're so dependent on that one player that the MSU defense will be able to slow him down enough to win. Youngstown's defense is BAD. Lamson would have an absolute field day unless we enter the Upside Down and he starts throwing multiple picks.

Haven't seen much of Yale yet but I was planning on checking out the Harvard/Yale game tonight if it's available on ESPN+ or YouTube.

I think there was something like 52,000 at the last Yale game their attendance is really up and down depending on who they’re playing.

This is where I'm at as well. Fun to play these kind of schools we wouldn't normally.

Don't let this distract you from the fact that the griz blew a 22-0 lead.

I'm all in for Yale as well, but they're going to have a helluva time with Youngstown, as probably are we, tough draw imo.

Agree, tough to see a MVFC team so early. If they are a tough enough conference to have 4 and 5 loss teams getting in, 2 seed shouldn't see one of them that early. On the other hand, they only got one top 8 seed so 5 are playing first weekend. The QB is the concern. Is Pinnick similar to him

Watching Brungard I was reminded of Justin Lamson quite a bit. Accurate passer, very good runner but not necessarily as athletically gifted as a Tommy Mellott. They use him a ton in the run game, in one game earlier in the season against Illinois State he had 30 carries for 200 yards!

The Bobcats should move the ball at will against either team.

YSU’s QB and WRs are excellent. They remind me a bit of the Prukop Bobcat teams with a dynamic offense and bad defense.

I like MSU by 14 in an early prediction against YSU and 24 if it’s Yale/

Is he as slippery as Pinnick? If not, may be good for us if they are so dependent on his legs.

They'll be a challenge, but I'm here for it. Iron sharpens iron. It's all part of the excitement that makes the playoffs so fun. Tougher competition makes for better, more entertaining games. 2/3's of the games this season were snoozers, looking forward to stiffer competition.

Eric Curry STILL makes me sad.

Completely agree! After the lack of competition at times this year it will be a great to have a challenge. After the long season this is a game I have skipped at times in the past bc you could pretty much chalk it up as a win. Looking forward it.

About nine minutes and they talk about the placement of Youngstown State with Montana state in the bracket. Reasoning makes sense. Youngstown State is probably under ranked.

I watched the highlights of the Yale/Harvard game and Yale plays tough defense. They reminded me a little bit of our defense, in that their secondary likes to come up and make plays. Their DL was absolutely harassing Harvard's QB, he was running for his life the entire game.

That being said, they won't have seen an OL like ours and Harvard's running backs looked slow and unathletic.

If you want any idea of what Youngstown State is like, watch them play SDSU on YouTube. The whole game us on there. Almost all of their games they go out fast and lose momentum in the second half. Brungard is a problem if defenses don't prtectvtheir gaps. He's really quick and will accelerate a lot like Tommy. He throws like AhYat. Elusive as Pinnick.
Their team has a smaller quicker defense than Davis but can get worn down as shown with SDSU. If Mason would have shown down and get his feet right on his passes in the first half, they would have blown them out. As it was, I think the won like 35-24. Youngstown was ahead after a half 17-7.
