"Among the proposals circulating this year, multiple sources confirmed to HERO Sports, is that commissioners will be presented with a model that could shift the FCS playoffs under a new umbrella more closely resembling the College Football Playoff (CFP)." -Sam Herder

As someone who only ever wanted to be a newspaper sportswriter and then saw first-hand the utter demise of newspapers, and the subsequent demise of community engagement, cumulative intelligence, civil discourse....because of the corporate and/or private equity interests over every other factor....I would say I'm unbelievably skeptical of this.....

Please no. The money in FBS football has ruined so many of the things that made college football great.
Rivalries, travel difficulties, players on 1year contacts, etc.
FCS still tetains a semblance of those things. And we should blow it up so that a bunch of VCs can make a few more billions and take joyrides to space?
F*** that.

While I have no problem with the NIL era, I do agree with keeping the FCS true to its roots. I'm with Colter; skeptical.

I read through it, but I didn't glean any concrete potential changes other than having a for-profit entity run the whole thing.
Are they suggesting that a for-profit would do a massively better job of marketing the games and driving revenue/sponsors? I'm not sure how they expect that to be the case.

I have an issue with the complete lack of commitment required. It's turning worse than the NFL. At least there you've got contractual commitments from players.

I was thinking more about this last night. The one thing that could change to maximize profit would be go back to the old system of schools bidding for home games instead of rewarding the higher seeds. Would this new system essentially guarantee home games (or even playoff spots) for schools that actually fill up large stadiums?

I'm not sure much would change. The teams that have the deepest pockets (more important that stadium capacity) and the largest stadiums and largest fanbases are also most likely to be the teams that earned the highest seeds. There are so few actually good teams in the FCS now that everything mostly aligns.

I would really like to see an accounting of how the NCAA managed the previous playoffs and where the money went. When MSU has a home game, the ticket revenues should be around $2 million. The article says the NCAA claims as much as 85% of the revenue. Where does it all go?

Besides NCAA administrative bloat it probably funds the playoffs for sports like water polo, fencing, bowling, etc.

I think at this point, any college that wanted to could offer a 4 or 5 year scholarship? Some sort of contractual language that bans transfers as part of the initial recruiting process?
I don't think teams are willing to go there yet because they are the ones profiting from the transfers.
But, yeah, guys in the NFL routinely sign 4-8 year contracts. No reason college couldn't fix the current mess by doing the same.
