I know we got blown out on Saturday but sending him out in front of the press in a plain tshirt is harsh. Maybe if he wins Gold Rush Vigen will give him some team gear.
Damn that was a fantastic read and move.
This is my biggest pet peeve with current defenders...HS, College, or Pro. Watch the video, Dowler does a great job at evading the Lineman's block, then just dives at/across the runner. That is not a tackle. Maybe it was my youth/AAU wrestling training...but a good form tackle should look like a double leg takedown...shoulder to thigh/midsection...WRAP UP with both arms...lift and drive backwards to the ground.
I don’t know if you’re right or wrong overall (I think you’re definitely right based on the players age) but it seems like the higher you move up the ladder in skill the wider the range gets for things that are acceptable technique-wise.WolfPtCat wrote: ↑Fri Sep 05, 2025 1:29 pmThis is my biggest pet peeve with current defenders...HS, College, or Pro. The only time it's acceptable to throw your shoulder/body into someone without wrapping up is if they are on the sideline. My son's a 9th grader and I drill this into him....WRAP UP....grab an ankle if that's all you can do...but grab something & hold on
In principle and at that age of your son, you are correct. And I’m wrestler through and through, so doubles are/were a big part of my life. But if you watch Dowler’s tackle, the technique is almost perfect for the head-across tackling as he delivers a blow to the thighs. With the sheer size and speed of those dudes, if Dowler tries to set his feet or grab pretty much anything, he’s getting trucked as he’s too late. So with the bob and weave around the lineman and the RB on him in a blink, it was a very good.WolfPtCat wrote: ↑Fri Sep 05, 2025 1:29 pmThis is my biggest pet peeve with current defenders...HS, College, or Pro.
