Prospect X
I had never heard of Prospect X: They review one player per draft they consider the most overlooked player of each years draft. For 2025 it is..........................Tommy Mellot! The article is not out yet but I will try and attach a copy when it comes out.

Re: Prospect X
Interesting. What publication puts that out?
MSU - 16 team National Champions (most recent 2024); 57 individual National Champions (most recent 2023).

Re: Prospect X
After a little Googling it appears to be done by an individual writer who currently works for ESPN. Looks like she generally picks small school players, which makes sense if it's supposed to be someone who's being overlooked.

2019 was Drew Forbes, offensive lineman from SEMO. He was drafted by Cleveland in the 6th round and played 13 total games for the Browns and Lions between 2019 and 2022. He appears to no longer be in the NFL.
2020 was Matt Cole, WR from McKendree University. He was undrafted, originally signed by Miami as a UDFA, then played 1 game for the 49ers in 2020 and 1 game for the Panthers in 2021. No longer in the NFL, now plays in Europe according to his Wikipedia page.
2021 was Christian Elliss, LB from Idaho. Originally signed as a UDFA by Minnesota and bounced around quite a bit his first two years, but started 6 games for New England last year and they re-signed him to a new two year contract this past off-season. Definitely the most successful "Prospect X" player so far.
2022 was Devin Harper, LB from Oklahoma State. Drafted by Dallas in the 6th round and played mainly on special teams for the Cowboys and Bengals in '22 and '23. Was on the Steelers practice squad for 2024 and is still on their roster for 2025.
2023 was David Durden, WR from West Florida. Signed as a UDFA by Dallas but didn't make the roster and is playing this year in the UFL for the Arlington Renegades.
2024 was Levi Drake Rodriguez, DL from Texas A&M Commerce. Drafted by Minnesota in the 7th round, made the 53-man roster and played in two games last season.

Re: Prospect X

How "Athletic" is it? Is it small school athletic? We don't want to assume it's "athletic" just because that's it's name. How about a 40 time ?

Can't make up my mind as to which is better - 55-21 or 48-14, but 34-11 will do.

No you’re not. I am still being accused of suggesting any player worth a crap would work out at 5am. That post (by someone) was at least 6 or 7 years ago. I have never worked out at 5am a day in my life.

Short goal posts, how athletic are the athletes, “we have arrived”, cameras on construction projects, early workouts, view shed, silent period, etc.,............ you aren't alone.

Christian Elliss - one of Luther & Rebecca's 12 kids, 4 of whom have played/play in the NFL (Christian, Kaden, Noah and Jonah). Kaden has started at ILB along side Troy Andersen for the Falcons. Luther was an all-pro DL for the Lions and "the strongest man in the NFL" a few times when they held that powerlifting competition back in the day - he's a freak athlete, and a damn good guy. But trust me, you don't want to box him out for a rebound while playing rec b-ballMSU01 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 10, 2025 10:35 amLet's see...not great.TomCat88 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 10, 2025 10:18 amHow have her picks done over the years?MSU01 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 10, 2025 10:02 amAfter a little Googling it appears to be done by an individual writer who currently works for ESPN. Luther wouldn't let any of his boys play tackle football until they were 15 to protect their brains. Seems to have worked.

Re: Prospect X
I love the mention of the mystery head coach having a framed jersey from a NFL QB he coached on his office wall, then later in the article they talk about that very same player by name. Must be a pretty fun article to write being able to drop clues like that and other things that people who know the player and his background will pick up on.
X CHECKED TWO new states off his list when he visited an AFC team one week before the draft. The night before he left, X and his girlfriend researched all the teams' coaches so he'd be familiar with their background, and they watched YouTube videos about the city, so he'd know what to expect.
The above paragraph sounds like Tommy...sorry, "Prospect X" visited the Bengals. Two new states since the Cincinnati airport is across the river in Kentucky. Whoops, this visit was already reported in the media...but still happy with my detective skills here.

Great to see this story. Probably makes it more likely than not that Tommy gets drafted.
At the very least, it will ensure some nice guaranteed money comes his way as a priority free agent somewhere.
