Re: DC Daly reported to UTEP
Sucks because you always know this is a possibility as we went through it with great DCs in the past. Success breeds opportunity and this year has proven that over and over again. Its just what the FCS is...a stepping stone. Maybe the only silver lining here is if Vigen leaves for another head coaching gig, Daly will likely be a top candidate.
In my simple brain, you promote Shawn Howe to full-time DC and Baptiste to full-time DL. But who knows, maybe Vigen has another young disciple that is ready for the gig. Just hoping we don't go the "old man with a past" route like we did with Garza.
My only concern here is maybe Montana recruiting as Bobby has been integral since BJ Robertson left. However, I think Vigen has done enough winning and experienced the state the last few years to understand how to get it done in Montana. I guess we'll see.

Jeez. This sucks. Didn't see this one coming at all. Figured he was the heir apparent on staff. Don't know that we have one at this point. Ugh.

Even at the FBS level your staff is going to get raided if it’s a successful program. Don’t like it but that’s the world we live in. Don’t think UNC lost any coaches.

Man, I want to be happy for him. I want to feel gratitude and say “thanks for a great season coach!”. I can’t… It’s getting hard to want to lift these guys up when you know they’re simply a rental…. I know that’s a bad take, but damn…

Players make coaches for the most part.
Almost always, Jimmy and Joes >>> Xs and Os unless the good players have an absolutely horrible system like Jamie Marshall’s.
MSU has an upper hand in recruiting over every Big Sky school except UM and Cal-Davis, and for Davis it’s a mix of location and academics.

Calling Bobby freaking Daly a rental is a damned big insult.MountainCat wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 1:25 pmMan, I want to be happy for him. Not sure Howe has the tools yet. Curious to see who for sure.VimSince03 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 12:52 pm

The Bobcats won more games in the 2024 regular season than UTEP has won over the past 3 seasons combined. Going from MSU to UTEP has the same energy as going from MSU to New Mexico.
Eastwood, did not make it. Ball out! Recovered, by Montana State!! The Bobcats hold!!! The Bobcats hold!!!

Re: DC Daly reported to UTEP
That’s been my exact thought through this offseason. It’s been rough. And this news makes it rougher. But if we were busy polishing a national championship trophy it sure would be easier to deal with. The fact that we aren’t AND this is all going down makes it an offseason like we haven’t seen in a long time.luckyirishguy25 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 12:39 pmugh.....just ****** gutted this year. Re: DC Daly reported to UTEP
I was speaking to coaches coming and going as a quick-step up in general. It wasn’t directed at Bobby specifically, so that’s my bad if that’s how you interpreted it. I have nothing but respect for Bobby, as a person and as a coach. Does it bother me he’s leaving after one season? You bet. Is it getting frustrating watching the coaching turnstile? You bet. Do I understand why he’s going? You bet…BelligerentBobcat wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 1:31 pmCalling Bobby freaking Daly a rental is a damned big insult.MountainCat wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 1:25 pmMan, I want to be happy for him. Including his playing years, Daly has been here for over a decade. He’s not leaving after one season.MountainCat wrote: ↑Tue Feb 18, 2025 2:04 pmI was speaking to coaches coming and going as a quick-step up in general.
